I guess I should write a bit more about this thing. Honestly I was a bit tight lipped about it right after the Beta came because, well... despite how great it looked and how awesome the music was, it just didn't feel as good as Nitronic Rush. So I barely touched it back then. But over the past week I've been returning to it and starting to enjoy it more and more. Turning down the graphics to get the same high FPS I got with NR help improve the feel of the game a lot. I'm fine with framerates of 30 or less for most games, but this is one that simply needs a higher rate to feel right. Still, despite all my tweaking I'm still often getting lag spikes when my car lands a jump on certain tracks. No idea what's causing it. Hopefully it'll be sorted out by the final release. The devs have also slightly changed the controls since NR. Whereas you used to control mid-air rotation with the right thumbstick, now you do so by holding down left bumper and using the left thumbstick. Not sure why this change was made as imo it doesn't feel quite as intuitive.
Despite a few shortcomings, there are still times when it delivers the same thrills NR did, and the level design has been taken up a considerable notch. Some really cool fan made levels out there too.

So Distance is coming to PS4.

So it is! And now it's out on Steam Early Access, which is good news since it means there's enough people playing it that you can get a multiplayer race going! :D

I played through Distance's Adventure Mode in VR twice today. Roughly 30-40min sessions apiece, and at no point was I even close to projectile vomiting all over my keyboard. Not only is the VR experience remarkably smooth, it actually makes me better at the game. My situational awareness is on a WHOLE NOTHA LEVEL! I was weaving through obstacles with ease, and 360 flipping like I'd been doing it all my life. Never before has a game made me feel more like Speed Racer. In fact, after what I experienced this afternoon I can not with 100% certainty say that I am not Speed Racer. It might simply be that my memories have been erased, and false memories of a life as a mild-mannered office worker have been implemented in their place, by my powerful enemies! Guys, I think I'm Speed Racer.
Bottomline: Distance in VR is amazing, and I'm probably Speed Racer.

and I just played through it. The Adventure Mode that is. Pretty short, bout 1 hour. Played the first half in VR, second in monitor-o-vision. VR is cool and intense and makes me feel more like Speed Racer than anything else I've ever played, but honestly it plays better on a monitor. Adventure Mode now has a semi-coherent story as well and some awesome visuals. They've also remade the Nitronic Rush campaign in it so I'll be playing that next, then diving into the Community-made maps, and perhaps even some multiplayer! Vroom vroom!
