Those enterprising young fellas at Digipen who made one of last years best racing games(for (
http://nitronic-rush.com/) free, no less) have finally graduated and are now trying to scrape together some cash for a sequel.

This entry will add multiplayer, a leveleditor, and a more fleshed-out gameworld. It'll also upgrade the artstyle from Tron to Tron: Legacy. From what I've read it seems like the city of Distance will be more open world as well. Which is great news because one of the great joys of Nitronic Rush was to jump off the track and go tearing up the side of scyscrapers and exploring the world
around the tracks as well. So all you who enjoy awesome racing games, BACK THIIIIIS! Those of you who haven't played Nitronic Rush yet, DO SO! And also upvote it on Greenlight plz.
I backed it for 15 dollars which'll apparently give me access to the Beta once it reaches that stage. Higher backing level-rewards include posters, t-shirts and a Distance arcade-cabinet.
Release date: August 2013
Platforms: PC, Mac (maybe Linux later on)

Awesome!! I wish these guys all the best. I've never really been into racing games but I had a ton of fun with Nitronic Rush and I highly recommend it.

Been playing a bit of Nitronic Rush over the past few days. After keeping Fraps running through many a retry I managed to capture a no-death run through the Gladiator map.

...and then I go on youtube and see (

For a second there before I figured out you were refering to me driving slowly in the game I thought you had a sixth sense or something because my brakepads ARE GETTING WORN OUT IRL! Calling the service station tomorrow to have them changed! :O

It only just dawned on me that you're/he's driving what is basically a BTTF DeLorean by way of Automan in Tron land.
None of the people who made this game are old enough to remember this shit!
In my day people just used to dress up as hippies and punks or wear crazy bell bottoms with platforms and big afros... oh wait.

Well I like racing games & bright lites, so should like this in theory.
I'll give the original a download and see what I think.
The futuristic racing game I'd like to see the most would be a remake of Slipstream 5000, sky podracing with weapons. Loved that game.

In that case dema, you might wanna check out (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rhlepWrKFQ) SkyDrift. It's got a good sense of speed, weapons that are fun to use, and certainly reminded me of Slipstream 5000. Sadly it didn't hold my interest for very long though. After completing one of the cups it started to feel a bit samey. :erg:
Still, well worth a purchase if you happen to catch it in a Steam sale I'd say.

Looks a bit jittery and choppy in places, especially when going uphill. Other than that it's looking good. Impressive vistas. Cool tunes. The car-handling looks like it might be more or less spot-on already. :)
