I'm posting this thread with the idea of letting potential players of the digital download of System Shock 2 from GOG know some feed back hardware/software wise for game play.
Background information:
I build high end gaming rigs for family and friends. I have done programing in the past but have not done so for over eight years. Programing takes lots of time which I don't have. Hence, when I buy/load/use a game or computer, I just want it to work.
My current build:
Intel Xeon E3 1280 V2 Ivy Bridge Rev 1, Steeping 9 on an Gigabyte Z77X-UP4-TH Rev 1.0 Bios F9. {in Bios I have turbo turned off along with power saving so CPU runs at stock 3.6 all the time. No, I no longer OC any of my CPU's. Been there, done that}
CPU air cooled with Zalman CNPS 9900 max-B with max temp of 56 c with several instances of Prime 95 torture test running. {Have done a number of water cooled rigs in past. Not any more. Been there, done that}
32 Gigs of Crucial memory running at 1600. { Yes, I have OC memory in the past. Not any more. Been there,done that}
EVGA GTX 680 4 GB on board memory. Driver 310.70{ Yes, I have done SLI in the past on several machines. Not any more. Been there, done that}
Asus PB278Q for my monitor.
Win 7, SP1, 64 bit all updates with E Set AV internet suite, all updates { yes, I have done Webroot, Bitdefender 2012, 2013 and others, always come back to E set. Don't get me started on Bitdefender , please.}
C Drive is Samsung 830 Pro 512 GB. Other three internal HDD are WD RE4 500GB.
I'm a 56 year old gamer in love with System Shock 2. My best, all time favorite game. Period! So, I am very prejudicial when it comes to this game. I am very thankful for the modding community and the work they have done to keep this game alive. I have tried with limited success in the past downloading the various mods/add ons/fixes/etc on various win 7, 32 bit/64 bit machines with limited success. I just want to install the game from scratch and have it work. Spare time for me is at a premium. I don't want to tinker under the hood with software or hardware. I just want to use it and have it work. I wish to game, not trouble shoot.
Great news after eight hours of game play with the GOG digital download. Not a single problem so far. Everything is working great. For those sitting on the fence debating buying/aquiring this, so far for me, it's been great right out of the download folder.
Thank you to all of you whom have made this happen, whether you have been recognized for your efforts or not . I say to you. Thanks!

For the love of christ, stop saying "digital download". ALL downloads are digital.
And what about people who aren't playing SS2 on Win 7 64Bit? Are they unwelcome in this thread?

1: Digital Download is a generic term referring to getting content from the web. Try Digital Download in a search engine.
2: Where do you come up with unwelcome? I posted my user experience with my current computer running Win 7/ 64 Bit OS.
There are visitors most likely coming here wondering if the downloaded version from GOG works as advertised. My results so far have been great.
Not everyone out there wants to spend hours downloading patches/mods/fixes to play this game. They would like to install it without issue and play.
You yourself have done a great service in keeping this game alive with your work. It is appreciated.
Please don't read more into this thread than what it is.
:cool:

Yes, and there are a lot of people who think Facebook is the internet and that their operating system is Adobe and that you can reboot by turning off your monitor and other ignorant wrong things. Why people would spew a verbose redundancy like "digital download" is utterly baffling to me. Glomming the word "digital" onto "download" adds precisely no new information or precision to it. It just makes it longer, to no purpose.
"Digital distribution", on the other hand, is a term that actually has a reason to exist, because it differentiates from traditional physical media based distribution.

Look at your own thread title. "...game play on Win 7 64Bit" I guess this thread isn't for people on XP, or Vista, or Win8.

This thread is obviously more of an advertisement for how cool Adam Nuhfer thinks he is, not how cool System Shock II really is... I puked after the 2nd "been there done that".

Intention, communication and perception.
Intention was to let people know the game runs without issue on my hardware/software combination. Not how cool I am, sorry about that.
Communication via text based is not one of my strong points. I put this post up after gaming most the night with very little sleep. I was very happy with how well the game played on a modern computer. Thought I would put up a quick post regarding my impressions so far.
Perception would have been better if I had taken more time to proof read my communication. Lesson learned on my part.

Thanks for the contribution even if it didn't go as planned. :D

It could have been worse you know, just imagine if Adam had written GoG instead of GOG.

I've been noticing many times that, for exaple, in 2002 the coolest videocard was GF4600, soundcard Audigy 2, a lot of memory were 2 Gb DDR. But all we had shit like GeForce MX440 with built-in ac97 (which was really crappy) and... I remember the moment when I've met a friend in another city and he had 64 megs of RAM, and I took my 256 with me just to play games with comfort.
But years later when we got GF9800, I could get old high-end stuff almost for free. And even if I build up an old computer with these cool components for win98-stuff and try playing games that required more memory and more powerful accelerator... you know, it doesn't seem like you have you dream PC of 2003. You just thought that this stuff is cool because marketing people said it's cool, because it cost a lot of money back then.
When I realized that, I stopped fapping on what is in fashion.
