Tom Leonard's a programmer, not an artist or level designer.

In that case, I'm not really sure who actually put together The Sword and the other missions Sara Verrilli worked on in TDP, structurally. Anyone know?

So I was right all along :cheeky: I think we can all agree that one cannot simply go from making a masterpiece like The Sword to making Thieves' Guild unless they suffered brain damage or something.

I replayed TG for the first time in 15 years or something not too long ago, and I don't remember having an issue with any of the missions. The sewers were a little time consuming until you knocked everyone out but ultimately not really difficult or confusing. Having to navigate them multiple times to complete objectives was mildly annoying, but you could have stuck any level from the game in between the 2 houses and it would have been tedious.

This just sounds like a thread made for you to vent your frustration because you couldn't find your way around the mission. Sure, it is more difficult to navigate than most missions, but nowhere near the description you are giving it. I understand players might view missions differently, and I definitely recognize the challenges that come along with the various underground locations in Thieves Guild, but with those challenges come the opportunity to persevere, to persist, and to not give up. Those are qualities a thief needs just like any other. The design in TG isn't poor, it is just different and not for everybody. If you have played fan missions since mid 2000s, then you perhaps know of some of the early creations.
Those are examples of poor design, not this.

Guild is the worst one, OM or fan, it is common knowledge and if you don't see it then you are special in some way.
This rivals some of the most ridiculous comments I have seen on this forum. And I've been here a while.

The only good maze in gaming is the maze in Resi4 castle level, and it's a tiny maze compared to Thieves' Guild.

I love the Thieves' Guild. I sometimes have dreams where I'm exploring an enormous complex, wandering down hallways and finding interesting rooms and having trouble getting back to where I started, and Thieves' Guild captures the feeling exactly.

Yes, to be fair Thieves Guild and Songs of the Caverns both were the worst missiosn of the entire game from my perspective. These empty, repetivive hallways, hastily made uninspired structures and horrible mazyness is the essence of what makes them so bad.
The Bonehoard was a maze too, but it was inspired by imagination, just like Constantines house or the walled off Old Quarter. That´s how pretty good missions were made - by imagination. Many fan missions work extremely well: exploring long forgotten tombs, pyramids and temples, cities with grazile vertical architecture, manors or brothels with some nasty secrets, futuristic missions, exploring other planets like in Keeper of the Prophecies are only a few good examples.
i guess, it´s optimal to have a creative team and multiple mappers, so each mission is a firework of creativity. Especially when campaigns are made, it´s often not that good to only have 1-2 mappers.

Song Of The Caverns was kinda brilliant, it rewarded exploration with allowing you to loot the hell out of the place while bypassing all of the guarded areas.

well i guess i will have to say it,all the thief gold extra levels were crap/even the bonus one,i don't even see why they made thief gold
also the order of missions in thief gold is ruined, and they changed the lost city and i am sure other levels
only thing good about thief gold is the extra textures added for fan missions
imagine if they skipped thief gold and spent more time on thief 2 so they could make the boring levels on that better, double mansion cough cough/etc
