Turning off instant search and going back to basic image search is about as easy as clicking a couple of links. You'll be googling as you were, so long as you don't clear your cache.

Man, you ain't making things easy on us.
Just get a stable Chromium build (free from Google Analytics) or some Firefox extension that lets you search from the URL bar. It's what I do. I haven't even been to the main Google page in about forever.
Your only other choice beyond that is to find another search engine.
