Yeah, the big chunky Motown-esque 'Smiley Faces' at full volume in car goes off! The Violent Femmes cover works well; Cee-Lo's voice on the title track is pretty outstanding, too.
:thimb:
The rest of the album is fairly tight but not exceptionally memorable, tbh. Transformer is hideous. Altogether though, it seems a decent move away from the Rap'n'Bullshit that seems to have dominated the airwaves in the recent past. I've moved onto the new Dirty Pretty Things album already, but Carl without Pete and Pete without Carl does not groundbreaking music make.

And neither does Pete with Carl or Carl with Pete, strangely enough.

7/10 Even the tracks that I didn't like at first have mostly grown on me(even Transformer), yet there's nothing
really great in there.

God damn that show was ahead of its time.

I liked 'Up The Bracket.' Self-Titled was too self-indulgent, but it certainly had its moments. The 'What a Waster' EP was tremendous - angular British punk, and a good antithesis to the Franz and Kaisers crowd. It's a shame NME had to masturbate so vigorously over their image, as they might still be around if the problems with the press hadn't come into it. Their music was ok, the hype surrounding them as 'saviours of British punk' were way ott.

But the "Franz and Kaisers crowd" didn't come until about 2 years later? Anyway yeah they were a decent band but 'groundbreaking'? No thanks. As an 18 year old most my friends are mad about the libs, once a drunk discussion lead to someone asking which band do you wish you'd been able to see live? THEY ALL SAID: THE LIBERTINES.
WTF BALLS

Balls indeed :) Sure, they weren't groundbreaking, but they were the first of the so-called 'rennaissance' groups to come from England (aka not the Strokes).

I really like the song "Crazy", but that's all I've heard (about 77 times, I'll admit).
Also I like how Brits use the term "bless your soul" where Americans would say "what an idiot".
Around here they say "Bless your heart". You could be saying "That guy is a worless drunk son of a bitch.....bless his heart" and its not an insult but you get to say it anyways. Quaint southern colloquialisms ftw.
