To be honest, I don't remember Arkane signing a contract with the gaming world promising that they will only develop RPG's. I don't see what evidence that anyone has they have "sold out" at all.

Latest word is that Arkane sold out and is making a more modern day FPS game.
Read my attempt at a description of their next project in (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111179) this thread. Does that game sound like a sell-out to you? :erm:
While it may not be the open-ended RPG you personally desire, it certainly doesn't look like they're playing it safe.

Singleplayer crossed with multiplayer. Interesting indéed. Like a bit roleplaying crossed with some multiplayer all in first person. I come to think of a mmorpg fps shooter.

I wouldn't hold my breath for
Arx Fatalis 2. Latest word is that Arkane sold out and is making a more modern day FPS game.
Crossing looks incredible and is actualy very innovative(more than Arx ever was). Plus....if Arx2 would ever be done I would like original developers to make it, not some new team...becuase yes...Crossing is developed by Arkane's Austin offices, not Lyon ones

Many of the people at the Lyon office, including Rafael, moved to Austin to work there. It's not a 'different team'. B'sides, Purah is in Austin.
Remember, back in the System Shock / Terra Nova / Flight Unlimited days, Looking Glass Technologies had two offices as well - Boston and Austin.

but Lgs teams were separate. Are you telling me they closed down their Lyon offices ?:(

No, I am saying that just because a company has two offices doesn't mean that it's going to be the ION Storm scenario, where they're like Jekyll and Hyde. In fact, the two studios actually collaborate on their projects.

oh..that's what you've meant :) Honestly..ION was exception. Most of the time diffrent offices all keep up the same quality. Vide Irrational.
Still...i've meant that since Lyon offices are operational it would make more sense to make Arx2 there, so one less reason to complain about Crossing :)
Also...tell me, because I'm not sure... was that Stephen Russel narrating the longer Crossing trailer?

Who knows, maybe Arkane never had any plans for making a sequel. I personally would love to see a sequel. Arx Fatalis was a nice refreshing change for the RPG market, unlike there second title DMOMM. But, like it was said above...the bills have got to be paid and if the games they are making don't sale well, then they need to make changes in order to appeal to the mass market. Speaking of, I think the gaming market needs a major overhaul but I'll save that for another thread.
