Unlike you I don't consider myself part of any crew and hence don't write threads for them.

Whenever adverts come on TV with the starving africans etc I'll usually turn over to another channel. I do this partly because I don't like to watch people suffering (especially when I can't do much to change things, not in any meaningful way, also, why is it suddenly my job to save the world when I also have to save every cock in the UK as well, while the government I have to say in spends my cash on a bunch of shit I ...digress), but also because I hate the method used by the advert creator to guilt you into handing over the cash.
It's no different to the rest of the despicable techniques used by the other mega companies who get alot of flak for such things. But because of the noble cause thing most people let it go.
Just out of curiosity, what will the money be spent on? Does it go toward new and exciting equipment? Paying highly skilled scientists for their hardwork? Or does it get Geoff the intern a donut and coffee at lunchtime?

How else should they do it though? I understand you POV, and its certainly not the 1st time I've heard it, but I think they are just showing you the reality.
What annoys me more are the animal charity adverts, full stop. I really believe anyone who gives to an animal charity without giving at least the same to a charity that helps 3rd World poverty needs relocation to a re-education camp.

Fair point, but just the imagery would be enough without the emotive music and voice over.
On your second point, me and a friend where talking about it the other day, how they would say something like "adopt an *insert animal* and receive letters from your new friend". Now thats just blatantly targeting children and I don't care how worthy the cause is, I can't stand such low tactics.

OK, sorry I've been lagging. For anyone who has a credit card, but limited because the JDRF World Atlas apparently only contains 7 countries, there is a (
http://bluegrin.com/attachments/jdrf.pdf) paper form that can be mailed in, or you can donate by phone +1(800) 533-2873. If not, and pay-pal is really your only option, then PM me.
As for Harvester, I was going to say "I would gladly offer that, but unfortunately, by GF has 'integrity' and probably wouldn't go for that" but then she saw your post and said "That's sweet, tell him I'll gladly review his stick figures." so what do I know?
As for how the money's spent, they use about 5% for management, 10% for fundraising expenses, 15% on awareness programs, and 70% on research.
And really, there may be pictures, but there won't be Lycra. It's for your own good.

At what point do you stop receiving donations? I haven't gotten my card from the bank yet... :erg:
Rug Burn Junky on 18/9/2009 at 23:27
Right up to October 4th. But nothing says you have to donate to *my* walk page. If you send it in to the organization after the fact, it'd mean just as much to me, really.
Enchantermon on 19/9/2009 at 00:42
Okay, I should have it well before the 4th.
