I'd like TEN good reasons from you people that would convince me to buy Deus Ex! G'head and give me as many as you'd like but I'm looking for ten GOOD ones :-D I did this same thing when it came to SS2 - went to the shock forum and asked lots of questions about it and ended up LOVING the game. I love Thief because of the stealthiness and the different playing styles, an excellent and somewhat original story full of surprises - and non-linear replayability. I love Shock2 cuz of the RPG elements, excellent suspenseful story, horrific gameplay elements, replayability, etc. I could go on and on. What does Deux Ex have to offer me? ;)

1. RPG elements (similar to System Shock 2)
2. Semi-open ended gameplay (much like Theif, you have options on how to something)
3. Can be played stealthy (not quite as good as Theif, but much better than NOLF)
4. All your favoriate conspiracies rolled into one game.
5. Cyborgs, Nano-technology, and RoboCop type robots (the big one from the beginning).
6. Shock-prod for non-leathal takedowns :D
7. Friggin huge game! (Took me over a week, playing it 6hrs/day to finish 1st time, and I missed all sorts of things. Most games, Theif aside, take me less than a couple days - i.e. ST: Elite Force, Red Faction, Jedi Knight 2, etc.)
8. Many of the same people responsible for SS2 and Theif being so good made it.
9. Replayability (maybe more-so than Theif).
10. High-tech gadgets.
Hope that does it for you....

Hmmm...here are some of mine....
1) Mulitple endings, and several ways to influence the course of the game and the fate of certain characters as it progresses
2) Many ways to complete each level....walking tank mode, cat burglar mode, silent sniper mode, riot cop pacifist mode, melee only mode....the list goes on.
3) A basketball court that works quite well.
4) The Augs....you decide what kind of cyborg-mutant guy you want to become...invisibility, or radar cloak? Do you want a detachable flying spy drone or an aggressive defence system? Choice is yours...
5) Atmosphere. The designers have put a lot into creating the feel of the world...Public service announcements, newspapers, books, etc, many of which will mention you.
6) Kittens! All over the place!
7) The locations....underwater sub base to Templar Cathedral in Paris to Wan Chai Market in Hong Kong to bombed out nuclear bunkers to the statue of liberty....*gasp*
8) Gunter Hermann's accent
9) The conspiracy-type plot
10) You get told off by your boss for breaking into the women's toilets.

And as it's been out for a few years it's quite cheap now. ;)

Well, DV, if you like SS, go and get it!
I came to DX from Shock, too, and it's much better than SS, IMO!
For example
* Better RPG elements and realism (You can use every weapon, raising your skill will enhance your performance with that kind of weapons)
* Character interaction
* A really well detailed story
* and much, much more, not to forget what the other guys mentioned!
So, my advise would be: Try the DX demo. It made the decision for me, and I don't regret one tiny bit having bought that game.

Space Shuttle re-entry disaster = FEMA placed in charge.
Hong Kong/SARS & today some Scotish microbiologist type saying it could result in a billion cases w/in a mere 60 mo's time.
You don't need 8 more reasons.

Technically, I don't believe Paris is part of "the 'hood". However, other than that what he said stands. As does what everyone else said.

Well, I dunno about DarkViper, but DannyClein reminding me of the lunatic fun of releasing the greasels into the lab has made me find the disc and reinstall. Mmmm... Actually, as I think about it, there are so many parts of that game I want to play again.
There's a point for you, then: It's one of those games that, even after you play the game every which way and try out all the different plot routes, you will still want to fire up again because it was just so much fun. Sure there are a couple of levels / segments / things I could do without, but I have an extensive savegame library and I can always skip them if I really want to.
Who needs new games when you have things like Deus Ex on the shelf? Which reminds me that I need to play Anachronox again, just for the first time Grunthos or whatever his name was pulls the Fast Talk on that dude at the shuttle bay. :D
You don't need ten reasons, DarkViper. You just need one: It's a damned good game. And I don't make that kind of pronouncement lightly.

Please, tell me this is a joke!"
Which reminds me... I still need to dl part 13 of the movie... Whoah...I can actually download something different than bandwith.htm!
