Not sure how many people here are interested in Ghost Recon Wildlands; from what I've read, it sticks too closely to the Ubisoft open world template and is relatively boring in single player and coop with randos - but I've also heard that it shines in coop with friends.
They're doing an open beta from Thursday 23/2 to Monday 27/2, in case anyone's interested. Curious to find out what it's like and to hear from others how they like it!

I'm still waiting for another Ghost Recon that's most like the original.
That game was absolutely awesome back in the day. It's sequels? Always disappointing.

Ghost Recon is a series I've not played at all, for no particular reason. It's just never popped up on my radar. Which probably helps with Wildlands.

It was a game that would've passed me by if it didn't come highly recommended.
The first game was more like oldschool Rainbow Six, but with the advantages of better AI operating in much more open spaces with much more intuitive planning and command controls. You could set up all kinds of clever ambushes and assaults with the greatest of ease, 8 other friendly AIs on the map who would actually do what you wanted them to. It was awesome, and it was fun.
But after that first one, they all went straight up third person action shooter. Haven't been interested in the series since.

Will have to pass if it's in line with current titles (FC4, Metal Gear), the usual weapon-upgrade/gear-frenzy wank off style gameplay.

Only one I've played extensively was GRAW 2 which, much to my surprise, was
not a "straight up third person action shooter". I was expecting a third person game from videos I'd watched, but it turns out the game was from the era when console versions and PC versions of games could be completely different things, and the PC version I bought turned out to be a tactical first person shooter. I liked it!

Well hell. Maybe I shouldn't have dismissed the whole series after the 2nd game.
Tell me, did GRAW let you set up three strike teams to cover areas, use suppressing fire, and all that good stuff? Cuz if it did, I might have to consider giving it a go.

It did let you give your dudes a bunch of orders! Can't remember the specifics. I think you only have like 3 AI squadmates tho.

I haven't played much of the GRAW 2, but GRAW 1 was still pretty good tactical game.
Now they've taken out the "Advanced" from GRAW, and it doesn't look good, gameplay-wise.

The open beta is now open.
Just played the opening mission in singleplayer.
Performance
Performance was pretty bad for me, even when I turned down most settings to Low I had noticable stutter at some parts(my specs are: Win 10, Core i7 3.5HGz, GTX 960).
Gameplay
Feels a lot like a Splinter Cell game, but open world.
Vehicles
Cars handle ok. Slidey and physicsy and decent enough. The helicopter feels pretty wonky. Bleh.
Bugs
At the end of the opening mission you have to escort a guy out of a building and into a vehicle, but he wouldn't leave his room, even when I tried prodding him out and repeatedly telling him to follow. Had to restart the section leading up to that, and then he followed me just fine.
edit: I just tried to play it some more but it couldn't connect to Ubisoft's servers (because of heavy load I'm guessing) so it wouldn't let me play. Not even in singleplayer. Boo!
