There will still be boats out in the distance like that, mostly squid boats now. At night they'll have bright lights on their mast turned on (squid are attracted to the light), and if you look out it's sometimes hard to see where the boat lights end and the stars begin. Really cool sight.
Yeah, burnt out proto-Kechi isn't looking so great. I used to hike the hills around there, and you can still see square stone foundations of really ancient looking houses around. Here's the Google Maps (

That north half of the southern island there is called Mitsushima-cho, and I think my students might be a bit miffed they're included with Izuhara-cho, which are our big rivals in sports. XD But I suppose back in the day Izuhara ran the show, so it makes sense. It's still the biggest town on the island, and I believe Kechi is the 2nd largest, although Kamitsushima at the north tip is also close. Thanks for the video!
