Oh thank fucking god.
I still haven't gotten around to playing DS yet, but I have to say: if never experiencing the full DS experience is the price to pay for the death of GFWL, I'd pay it gladly.

Interesting.
I have 2 copies of Fallout 3. A Retail copy, and then I bought the GOTY edition on steam. When I went to activate my steam version I didn't have to because my retail key was linked with my GFWL account. My steam key still has not been used. Even though I launch the game from steam.
I wonder if somebody else could use my steam key in GFWL and get themselves a nice copy of Fallout 3 before next July.
Also. YES!!

Interesting. This is the initial phase of whatever plan Jason Holtman has for Microsoft's gaming division. I suppose it's a full-fledged absorption of GfWL into Xbox Live with no compromises, the better to present a unified gaming ecosystem for the PC and the various Xboxen. That would seem to make the most strategic sense.

But Dark Souls man :(
I hope 2 things:
1) Dark Souls 2 is so good that I can live with the loss of Dark Souls
2) Some Durante-esque game-lovin' muthafucka makes a patch which connects it up to some kind of multiplayer servers, or failing that, Fromsoft manage to transpose it to Steamworks (there is currently a hoax rumour going round that this is happening - it's not. Yet.)

Much like Windows 8 merged the desktop and Metro with no compromises, no doubt.

Weren't they planning on revitalizing the service or something?

Be better yet if all games that use GFWL reverted to using steam only.

They'd be fools if they didn't have the various games that require the service patched to not include gfwl anymore. I can see a shitstorm of complaints if they don't do this.
That said, I bet very few people are actually angry that GFWL as a service is going away. Personally, I felt it was an unnecessary addition to my games, especially for example Dead Rising 2 which is the steam version so it's twice the services rolled into one.:erg: Not only that, sometimes it had problems and was overall just a poor service in my opinion.

I can only hope that ubiplay goes in the same direction.
