This may not connect directly to LG (they did do the Underworlds, though), but I still love this old classic and have been experiencing a lot of bugs when running it, namely the absence of digitised speech and occassional crashing (everything else works fine though). Of course, this is an old game whose engine was already unorthodox for the time, and getting it to run on a current system is difficult. My PC is a bit old, so that helps a bit. I was wondering whether there are any patches out there, or if someone has ported the game to Windows. I heard there was a Linux/X-Windows version being made. Any ideas?
Also, does the Ultima Collection CD contain the Underworld titles? If they were the first true FP games, why does Wolf3D get all the credit (except around here for some reason

Moving to the Underworld forum.

Well, aren't you lucky you posted this thread on Community Chat before Saam ceremonially shunted it?

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gifNone of the windows conversions of U7 are any good at the moment, but there's a brilliant little wrapper program that will let you play the original DOS version under win95/98. Works with both Ultima VII and Serpent Isle, with whatever soundcard you happen to have, and best of all it runs U7 at the proper game speed no matter how fast your processor. I have absolutely no idea what the homepage of it is but you can grab a copy here.
Caveat: It won't run in WinNT/2000 and I have had crashing issues with Serpent Isle and an SBLive.
As for the Ultima Collection, it only contains the 'canonical' Ultimas: 1 thru 8, including Serpent Isle and Akalabeth (lord knows why). That means no Worlds of Ultima and no Ultima Underworlds. Fools.

Yes, this U7WIN prog rules!!!
I've recently gotten the add-ons for U7 parts 1 and 2 (thanks to The Penalty) and I'm currently replaying U7 from Windows 98 with that prog and it rocks (Moslo is also needed for U7 Black Gate).
Floribus on 16/10/2000 at 13:06
Thanks for the U7win!
I will try iot tonight.
I always dreamed to finish U7...

Hmmm, when i speak for Ultima 7 engines for
the modern operating systems i mean progs
like EXULT (http://exult.sourceforge.net/).
U7win9x is nice utility for running Ultima 7,
but it's NOT a new engine!!!
I want to be clear :-)

xman: interesting, I didn't need Moslo with u7win9x and Ultima 7; I was under the impression that Windows was doing a good enough job on its own of regulating the gamespeed.
Penalty: great resource you got there.

I didn't know about Exult.
It looks interesting but it doesn't seem to be finished yet. On the other hand U7win9x runs perfectly...
But I'm still interested in Exult because it could use the capacities of my SBlive instead of the poor music of SBpro emulation.
However... Does Exult support Serpent Isle and the 2 add-ons?
About Moslo, well... On my PIII o/c@820MHz, NPCs run so fast that it's hard to talk to them without Moslo.
