Hey everyone. I just registered here because someone told me you might be able to help with my problem.
I tried to play Thief 1 and 2 earlier on my PC neither of which work now. I can get them both installed fine. Ive disabled one of my processors and in the case of Thief 2 I've removed the semi-colon from before "safe texture management" as instructed by the help I found in the FAQ here.
But when I go to start the game it will either freeze a minute or two into play or the screen will just be black.
The guy who recommended me this place assures me that it's possible to still play these games. What else do I need to do? By the way in the case of Thief Gold I've also replaced the exe with that "texture patch" but it still doesn't work.
EDIT: Oh yeah I'm running Windows XP with a Geforce 9800 if that's relevant.

System specs are ALWAYS relevant. More details might help to solve your problem. Nvidia based cards are a constant problem with THIEF.

I was having the same problem with Thief Gold tried all the fixes (i.e ddfix) but still could not get it to work on Vista x64 with a Geforce 8800GT graphics card turns out all i had to do to fix the problem was change the compatibility mode to windows 2000 not windows 98/me

I minimised the game and did it via task manager.
Yeah I've tried all the suggestions but nothing is working. When I tried putting the compatibility to Windows 2000 I saw the health meter but nothing else.

You mean by setting the affinity manually? It's not always effective. ddfix helps with this on some systems. If it doesn't help you try (

Nothing works on Vista 64 :) Well, at least its a problematic platform. The only way I personally could get everything ruining is to use 32 bit.
