Really. I demand that Ravenhook explain why he dredged up a year-old thread to give the wrong answer.

At the thief starting page where you either start a new game or load up a save hit the windows key which takes you out to desktop and press control/alt/delete...which opens up task manager. Scroll down to Thief Gold or Thief 2 and right click on it, cick on "set affinity"...deselect all the ticked boxes except for the very top one (cpu 0), click ok and minimise task manager..don't turn it off..then go back into game.

Just to put this matter to rest (possibly), I discovered the wonders of (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134733) TFix and have been living happily ever after. What I did was:
1. Made sure it was completely UNinstalled first.
2. Copied the contents of the THIEF folder from disk 1 where I wanted it to be installed on my computer
3. Copied the THIEF folder from disk 2 and overwrote/pasted it in that same location.
4. Ran the TFix installer.
5. Played Thief, alone in a dark room, for 5 hours.
Thank you everyone who took the time to help me with my problem. My apologies for not following up promptly.
