Hello, I am using Windows 7 Home premium 32-bit. I have installed Thief 2 on my desktop with the game cd (from Sold Out). It installed, ran the movies and started the first mission, yet it froze after playing for a minute or two. Most of the time it froze when a sound other than the ambient sound was playing. The freeze stops gameplay, but will continue to play the sound clip until it is done. It does not crash to the desktop, so I have to CTRL+Alt+Del to get it to quit.
I found (

Hey all!
I got a bad problem with T2 on windows 7 64-bit. When full installed, it crashes to desktop after playing a while.
It seemed somewhat similar to my problem, so I followed the directions to install DDFix. I installed DDFix-1.5.11.zip and DDFix-Thief2.zip
I tried to play the game, but it refused to start it up this time, displaying the message
Invalid resolution in cam.cfg
Any advice? Please let me know if you need more information.

Sounds like you haven't patched the game's EXE to force it to use only one core of your multi-core CPU (single affinity). That's usually why Dark Engine games crash within a short time of loading a mission.
I recommend just doing a fresh install and applying the latest beta of (

Even better - let Tafferpatcher do the installation.

Thanks for responding.:D I uninstalled the game and even deleted the thief 2 folder for good measure. I'm waiting for the tafferpatcher to download and will keep you posted as to whether or not I got it to work.

Would it be possible to install Thief 2 before installing the tafferpatcher? It's probably not finding what it's looking for because the disk is from Sold Out, it's a two sided Thief 1 & 2 Two-in-one disk.
Yes. I recommended that you do that in the first place.

I installed Thief 2 and then the Tafferpatcher....
Wow, it works perfectly! I could cry for the beauty of it. The game looks amazing and I've never seen it run so smoothly! Thank you so very much for your help:cheeky:

Is there a Tafferpatcher for Thief 1? Or for Thief Gold?
I have the same problem with freezing with Thief 1 as I did with Thief 2.

At the thief starting page where you either start a new game or load up a save hit the windows key which takes you out to desktop and press control/alt/delete...which opens up task manager. Scroll down to Thief Gold or Thief 2 and right click on it, cick on "set affinity"...deselect all the ticked boxes except for the very top one (cpu 0), click ok and minimise task manager..don't turn it off..then go back into game.

This thread is 2 years old though. :P I guess nowadays solution would be to just install TFix, and live happy ever after. :)
