It should run in OS 7.3/5 and up to OS 9. If I'm not completely mistaken. It does need a PPC mac though.

Thanks, I'll put this piece of info up on SBF in the ShockMac-thread if you don't mind. :)

Something funny just happened. A guy sent me an email telling me that I could borrow every Mac OS that I felt like from him. I wrote him back asked if he had 9.0.4 because I already bought 8.6. And the guy didn't really say he did, he just said something like this:
"Just come to the dentist at blabla-street, I have them all and will leave them at the reception for you to choose".
Hmm.. sound like a setup to me. Maybe I'll end up with a different set of teeth.. dunno. I'll go down there tomorrow and get 9.0.4 and see if that has any effect on Shock in SheepShaver. (That would be System Shock SheepShaver = SSSS)

I know this is an old thread, but any progress on this? I'm really curious to see MacShock run on newer Macs...

I'm curious to know if the higher-res textures can be ripped and used in the PC version actually, has anyone tried?

Saam to get Shock running on mactels you would have to emulate a classic mac os 7-9 machine. Sheepshaver (which I tried recently) doesn't run like anything close to stable yet, and my guess is that it never will. If you have a ppc mac then it's easy with the Sierra "hack", but with Mactel hope is pretty much lost. At least to get it running easily.

Running System Shock 1 on a (Intel) Mac is simple.
You need:
- Mac OS 10.4.x
- A DOS Version of System Shock 1 (Diskette or Enhanced CD-ROM version)
- DOSBox 0.70 ((
http://dosbox.sf.net/) from here)
Just install the DOS version of the game using DOSBox.
Specific configuration for playing SS1 in DOSBox (in the "DOSBox Preferences" file located in your /Users/xyz/Library/Preferences:
cycles=auto
core=dynamic
scaler=normal2x
memsize=32
xms=true
ems=true
umb=false
replace all "22050" with "44100". thats the audio sample rate.
additional, for users who are playing the enhanced version of SS1, you need to mount the cd or image file.
if its an image file, add following lines to your config file:
[autoexec]
imgmount driveletter "/path/to/my/shock.iso" -t iso
replace 'driveletter' with the drive you wish for the virtual cd-drive.
if you have a physical cd, add the following lines to the config:
[autoexec]
mount driveletter /Volumes/thedisc -t cdrom
replace 'driveletter' with the drive you wish for the virtual cd-drive, and 'thedisc' with the label as you can see it when the cd is mounted in OSX.
the rest of the options in the config file can stay as they are.
now just run DOSBox, switch to the CD-Drive, install the game and have fun!
any questions? pm me.

Are you sure they're higher res? DOS SS1 uses 128x128 terrain textures, which was pretty high for back then.

Yeah, I read one of the posts in this thread as implying that some of the graphics were higher-res, but then according to Kolya's topic this meant the vlog movies.
