What?

I think I encapsulated in one post what can be very frustrating about PC gaming.
Now I'm going to have to find some sort of replacement for the DVD.

That's a lot of shit to go wrong all at once, Scots. Condolences.
I just fucked up and wandered into the NPP before I was ready, (pretty much instant death as soon as I go through the hole in the wall due to combination of radiation, Military guys shooting me, Monolith guys shooting me, and helicopters shooting me) and now I find that it's impossible to get back to Pripyat, and iirc my next most recent save is just after completing the Brainscorcher, and with about 100,000 RU less money than I have now. So I'm kind of pissed at myself.

Load auto save (start of the NPP), drop all unneeded items so that you wasn't overloaded, if you have exoskeleton equipped change it to something allowing you to sprint, equip your best endurance boosting artifact if you have any, and sprint to the NPP's entrance point periodically saving. Even if you haven't any other armor except exo and/or endurance artifacts it still should be possible to get to the entrance alive if you're careful and quicksave often enough :)

Please see: "BEFORE I WAS READY." I have no anti-rad artifacts, no exo-suit, and while I do have two Moonlights, pretty much everything I'm carrying is necessary (medkits, ammo, anti-rad meds, some food, a pistol, Vintar Special, and an assault rifle).

You don't need anti-rad artifacts to get to NPP entrance in time, as well as you don't need exo-suit. All you need is an ability to sprint long enough. So drop all items that overload you over 50kg, equip a moonshine and go. You'll find exo, good weapon and ammo inside NPP.

Well, back up and running (using a dled version that's simply referencing my DVD so I can play patched etc) but I lost all my save games despite having copied what I thought were the save games before wiping my drive. Oh well, after an hour I'm already back to helping the stalkers pinned down by the military just before I find Strelok's hideout, so I guess I'm not far away from where I was.

Okay

Them traveling electrical anomolies would be poltergeists. If you kill them all you won't have to be worried about being clubbed in the back of the head by a floating barrel.

I usually run around the lab trying to get all of them pesky Poltergeists. It's only after killing them all that I finally take the time to explore the place and perform the necessary tasks.
