I have been trying for the last few years to get Gametrailers to cooperate with Firefox. FLV would just say "LOADING YOUR MOVIE" then do nothing. WMV and QT would just laugh at me and do nothing.
It worked fine in IEtab, then it stopped working fine in IEtab. And when that happened it stopped working in regular IE.
I hate this fucking website but I have idiot friends who spam me with GT links 5000 times a day despite my telling them to go to hell. So I'd like to at least be able to SEE the goddamn videos.
I have no idea how to go about fixing this. I've tried deleting my GT cookies, nothing. I've reinstalled the codecs, nothing. Nothing works. Any help would be appreciated.

Neither of those worked.
I found out what it was by accident though. When I loaded it in IEtab to test it, there was a blank space where an advertisement usually should be because I have a HOSTS file that blocks it. The way the video didn't even show up reminded me of how an ad would be blocked by the HOSTS file, which got me to thinking, so I renamed it to HOSTS.old and reloaded the Gametrailers page. Lo and behold, the video worked. (That said, it only advanced the frame if I moved the mouse... wtf)
There was a single line in the HOSTS file that said Gametrailers, so I commented that out but it didn't fix anything. Not feeling like trying to figure out which exact line was causing the problem, I'm finally installing Adblock, which I've never needed before until now.

Workaround:- Try using the Firefox extension DownloadHelper to download the FLVs temporarily to your desktop or whatever.

Empty the browser cache and try again.
Do flash videos work on other sites such as Youtube.com etc. etc. or just Gametrailers.com?
What prog are you using to alter the hosts file?

It was just Gametrailers. And I used Notepad2.
AdBlock seems to work just as well without blocking necessary shit. I remember that some years ago for days I had trouble reinstalling Flash (I forget why I had to), and I finally figured out that the Flash download link was blocked by my HOSTS file. And that's not the only example where it's gotten in my way.

Altering the hosts file will affect all browsers, no matter which is used. This must be the 'cause of your troubles. A trace to gametrailers.com reveals akamai servers which I believe is providing content to the site. If any entries in the hosts file with a 96.17.110.xxx range, remove them. Try again.
