I was woken up last night by the thumping of mortar fire and airbursts.

And it turns out I wake up, get dressed and get to the door alot faster when woken up by explosions then I do when my alarm goes off. It turns out my neighbors were celebrating the 4th (Technically the right day since it was after midnight) early, and once I had a cup of coffee I joined the celebration.

Here's to the US of A, where we make our neighborhoods sound like a warzone to remind ourselves how cool it is that it only happens once a year! :thumb:

Just watched the fireworks show over the National Mall ... a Christian band behind me, some dad with his t-shirt tucked in yelling at his daughter for talking back at him, collective chants of USA USA USA following the finale, overrun with non-native English speaking types trying to sell us water and ice cream, a team of heavyset folk in what seemed to be mechanical wheelchair-scooters designed just for overweight people... I knew this was my homeland. Happy birthday America. :cool:
