The memory is just the type the graphics card has on it. The newest cards have GDDR4 or 5. Doesn't have anything to do with your motherboard. Be sure to research your BIOS settings for the new install. Like AGP aperature, set it to like 256.

Sooooooooooooo true, you will end up buying a super nice card and on your very first exciting boot of any hardcore game, the whole thing will turn up in flames!

Also the cooler on the 3850 is far better than the 4670, I have tested boith cards in my media pc, and the 3850 is the one I stuck with.
I don't know how you managed to keep your 3850 cooler than a 4670, but I can tell you for sure that my 3870 heats up my room at winter time when not even playing games.... but just surfing the web. Ohh and I moded the bios to make the fan work more silently and more efficiently and still...
My advice kid, go with the 4670 for now (the price is from 120$ USD to 150$ USD), save some more money if you need to, this will be worth your while.

PS:
I had a 7800 GTX, I know what it is when Crysis chokes... that's why I got that 3870 ;)

just a small fyi...
1. the 4670 is the same price as 3850.
2. the 4670 cooler is louder making a noticeable whine.
3. the 3850 runs cooler than the 4670.
4. the 3850 is faster than the 4670.

I am not trying to start a war here. I am trying to get the kid my point of view.
For most of my statements, I try to provide a link that would support each and each of them.
You judge ;)

I would only say this. 4670 Consumes less when idle, the noise coming from the fan stays at around 40 dba +/- under full load (and around 30 dba when idle) and it's performance is on the same par as HD 3850 BUT with AA and AF turned on.
The way I see it, he won't be playing at more than 1440 * 900 (Or maybe even less than that), so if 4670 can do AA,AF and give you the same performance at the same resolution, then why not take the 4670?

To bring this subject back up, xmas is rolling around now so I'm actually getting a new card finally.
A few questions. Still the same recommendations? What are AA and AF?
Edit:Side note - I have no plans to raise my resolution beyond 1024x768 using a new card.
