Or is there some crazy irrational love of ye olde effects over modern computer-graphics?
Actually, the way the effects were done in the original movies was part of their appeal to me when I was a kid. Someone gave me a "making of Star Wars" book that went into detail on the models and blue screen stuff and that's part of what held my interest about the series when there were plenty of other good movies at the time that I haven't seen since. Surely I wasn't the only kid who was inspired to muck around with an 8mm camera after seeing the space battles in the original movie.

(

It looks distinctly to me like Bigg's might have been an early prototype for Han Solo, but a more distinctly heroic Errol Flynn type. But thank God those were cut, they are dreadful. Also, there are some Brokeback Tatooine moments in there.

Best piece of news in that article:

That's also the day fans will be able to experience the LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy video game
I know I wouldn't want to pay what I expect the OT dvds will cost at release. And if it truly is a limited time offer then I won't buy them at all since they won't fall in price.

Wow, this is so familiar to me it's eerie, and I couldn't put my finger on why I felt like I had seen this all before, and then anonymous reminded me:

When I was a kid, I had a Star Wars book with stills from this scene. If I remember correctly, it was also in the Marvel Comic book.
I recall the marvel comic of Raiders of the lost Ark having more scenes not in the movie too, and wonder if there are scenes like this out there in it.
By the way, other fun things like this: early scripts of Back to the Future had the time machine in a refridgerator, and the the Chinese restaurant scene from Temple of Doom was originally in the first Indiana Jones, as the amulet was in 3 different pieces (the third piece being in a museum, never shot, but where Indy jumps out of the window into a moving car a la Shourt Round).

I can't check because I'm at work, but are these the same deleted scenes that were on the Deleted Magic documentary DVD that fans put together last year, or are there new ones?

Mark Hammil is a bit of a close talker in those scenes. I hope he at least had the decency to use a mint.

I just got laserdisc rips, I'm not going to support Lucas. Well.. when they come out with a huge box set for 1-6 I'll probably buy it... after they release 10 other box sets before hand.

I'm afraid I wouldn't know. It's a scenes that show Luke in Tatooine noticing something in the sky with binoculars then telling his friend Biggs (who's just returned from the Academy) and a few others about it, they don't believe him and one chick says
Luke's had too much sun! (Classic Lucas dialogue). Then a later scene shows Biggs and Luke <strike>in an intimate embrace as the twin suns set on Tatooine and the Brokeback Mountain guitar plays</strike> talking about Biggs joining THE REBELLION.
Oh yeah, ^ spoilers.
