And it'll work brilliantly because I will buy it, and so will everyone else.

Ah, well. Then I get it.
Sounds pretty standard for Lucas related companies then.
While we're somewhat on topic, has anobody else got a DVD version of RotJ where in the final duel Vader's saber FX hasn't been properly enhanced? In mine it looks like it did in the early versions, in stark contrast to Luke's crystal clear green piece of coolness.

In a similar vein, can anyone shed some light on Obi-Wan's lightsabre prop 'shorting out' in the original film? It looks like he's just holding a sparking rod* and the 'light blade' is gone.
* not referring to Shug here but normally I do when I say 'sparking rod'

I believe that was Phantom Manace and refering to that scene...
Behold the eloquence of a Master Creatively Visionary Filmmaker when asked about the "fried light saber" scene:
Quote:
Q: One of the scenes I was hoping to see, that I've seen pictures of, is Obi-wan being lectured in the (swamp?) by Qui-gon (after his) saber burned out.
LUCAS: In the end you know it's like four lines. I mean the scene is there, it just would be longer. And it's the kind of thing that overall in looking at the movie I felt that that discussion didn't really fit into the movie. It's relevant in a more grand scheme of things, which is relevant to the movie that I'm making now and kind of things, it's a kind of minor version of what Jabba the Hutt was in New Hope. Which is is it's not really relevant to A New Hope but it is relevant to Return of the Jedi. And, you know, (?) in the second one too but mostly when you go back to see the last film. And this is just a couple of lines that sort of resonated against similar kinds of lines that are going on in this movie. But you know in the end it's a shading, it's not really a big issue. And in a lot of cases you're sort of trading off shadings that might be appropriate in the grand scheme of six movies, but not appropriate in the individual movie as it exists. Unfortunately I'm writing a novel and I'm writing it a chapter at a time. And one chapter comes out every three years. So each chapter has to kind of work unto itself. And it's kind of tricky, because you don't want to do things that bring the whole thing down just because if you saw the whole thing at once it'll all make sense but it doesn't individually. So I have to kind of weigh those two things against each other all the time.

wot
I think that's the best ridiculous explanation I've ever heard. I have new respect for George Lucas.

I have no idea what the hell he said there... then again, I don't know what you guys are talking about either. Is there a Google Video clip?
ignatios on 29/5/2006 at 18:27
No, but it's mentioned on (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076759/goofs) imdb:
Quote:
Revealing mistakes: During Kenobi's final lightsaber battle with Vader, Kenobi tips his lightsaber downwards, right before a scene change. The white "glow" that should be there isn't, showing the stick-like prop the actors used in filming. There is a small white light at the tip, too. This was not fixed in the Special Edition, but it was finally fixed on the 2004 DVD.

Ha, neat!

In the end, the question is : How does one gets its grubby hands on the pirated-Laserdisk-to-DVD?

I got mine off bittorrent (4 gigs per film) and burned them myself. You can almost certainly get them at any comics convention that occurs in your area, and e-bay has tons of people selling them.
