Wo0t!
The only better Star Wars related news would be Rick McCallum's untimely death by anal rape. But we can still dream.

Fourth time's a charm for Han and Greedo, it seems.
Fuck off, George Lucas. You are a shameless cock.
Scots Taffer on 4/5/2006 at 02:39
A shameless cock, he is indeed. However, I want these movies because I remember them so well and they have a very special place in my heart, he can keep Episodes 1, 2, and 3.
I'll maybe add 3 to my collection someday, but 1 and 2 only have about an hour of decent Star Wars between them (on repeat viewings).

What the hell? Only Dolby 2.0 on the originals? Jesus Lucas, I swear, you save everything. Next year he'll put out the originals with 5.1, and I'll have to buy those. That bastard.

It'd be worth it just to have RotJ without that blues song in Jabba's lair. I can accept pretty much all of the other changes, even Greedo shooting first, but not that song. That was the biggest WTF?!?! in any movie.

They'll probably do the least amount possible on restoring the picture, so we'll be stuck with garbage mattes on the space ships and rancor matte lines and all the other crap, which will probably leave the fan made (and at some point to be released) (
http://www.x0project.com) X0 Project as the actual definitive version of the Original Trilogy.
I'll wait until some reviews of these discs come in before I buy them, there'll probably be a glut of them by September 20.

I was one of those, uh... older type people who saw Star Wars on initial run and stood in line opening day at the Charles Cinema in Boston for the 2nd and 3rd films.
70mm......6ch Dolby...amazing.
I have VHS copies of the first 3 from laser disc and won't get within 15 feet of the "new" versions or of those last 3 Star-Wars-like film things Lucas put out.
Except, as Scots_Taffer says, Episode 3.... maybe....
And I agree with the Lucas "shameless cock" sentiments.
He seems to have the least clue of anybody what made those films loved and successful. He claims to hate the first movie; he had to "fix" it.
and I sometimes think that he hates the fans just as much.
The level of hubris is amazing.
Dolby 2.0????? What the hell does he have against the people who made him rich????
The closest I've seen to anything that made me have as much fun as those first 3 films has been Firefly/Serenity.
I think he just got lucky with Star Wars. He hasn't done anything worthwhile since. If he had directed or wrote the Indiana Jones films, he would have mucked them up.
Remember... Ewoks and Jar Jar were his ideas.

I'd like to have the "original" special editions on DVD also.
Oh well.

I may be missing something, but wasn't Star Wars one of the first films of its time to support Dolby Stereo? I thought I read somewhere that only 40-someodd theatres were equipped with the necessary equipment. That said, why expect Dolby 5.1 from this release when the only available audio is in stereo? (I understand that sound can be remastered, but that seems to defeat the purpose here)
