General Inadequecies (aka. I Suck) - by Stainboy

My blade is 80+
My block is 80+
My sneak is 100+ (enchantment to 107, I think)
My bow is around 75
My character is level 20
I can't stand toe to toe with 'most' creatures in the game so far and have had to leave certain areas completely. Several can spot my character from 50 feet away and start attacking long before I can see them (see sneak skill). If there are two creatures at a time... forget it! Hit reload and try to lure 1 away from the other. The only chance I have most of the time is for creatures to never spot me.
Just to throw one more in there, my lockpick is level 52 and I still cant figure out the timing. Looks to be about 1/8th of a second to make a decision. I just figured that as you leveled up, it would get easier?
I'm having a blast... most of the time:) But it does seem to me that the difficulty is a little TOO HARD! My character is an acrobatic elf with the thief sign. Perhaps the game is taylored more to the brawlers than the sneakers.

Huckeye, have you beaten an oblivion gate yet? If so, could you sneak past everything?

The lockpicking minigame isn't all that hard, once you realize you shouldn't try to lock in a tumbler on every attempt. Rather, you wait for it to move up at a nice, steady reasonably slow pace, and click when it hits the top.
I've been having trouble with wildlife - people aren't so bad, but anything non-human is a bitch and a half. One particular quest had me and two 'helpers' assaulted by 3 waves of 4 goblins, and I was getting my ass handed to me.
Of course, I only now just realized you can poison your weapons, so the next bear who fucks with me is getting a dose of strychnine, or at least the best damage health potion I can whip up.
Honestly though, I feel like I'm gonna just reach for the difficulty slider from now on when I'm getting my ass kicked by things that I don't think should be able to. Not really the way I'd like to play, but it certainly beats getting my arms ripped off.

I couldn't. Most of it is considered outdoors and there aren't many shadows in the indoor parts. (I have 100 stealth too)

Yes, I have beaten 3. The last one made me think of doing unthinkable things with the DVD
I have to sneak, its the only way I can fight. The hardest part is the
Spider Daedra that spawn the little spiders that paralyze you and also heal themselves
they were in the last gate and you throw in a couple of other enemies in the room with them and it can be tough. The first enemy I mentioned typically sees me after the first arrow (especially in the towers). So I have to do the backpedalling with arrows.
I have also found that sneaking means squat to
I actually forgot their name, but they are in the wilderness and spawn bearss and heal themselves
Im still having fun, mind you, its just real hard for a thief. Im bound and determined to beat this thing with all the default settings. I may have to buy a few spare F9 keys, but Im gonna do it :D
Sneaking works real well in the arena though. I am a hero without losing a fight. (comes after gladiator).

Yeah, those spider daedra are the worst imo. It got better once I found the ring of vitality (100% resist to paralysis, disease, poison), but I wish they made it so they can only summon the spider daedra every 10 or so seconds.
One thing they did do is they made the mobs fight a bit uniquely(the daedra at least), but they, for the most part, didn't spend time making the way YOU fight the mobs all that unique. Especially at the high end, heh. Just like every other RPG, the game breaks down at the high end, where virtually every mob is fought the same way. At least for me.

After playing a bit further, I think that sneak has been 'optimized' for certain areas. While probably not on purpose, there are certain places where my level 107 sneak skill works just like I was yelling and jumping up and down with part of me on fire during a prayer at chapel. I have tried entering one specific location about a dozen different times. It is dark inside and the second I walk through the door something from another room sees me and starts attacking. The creature is so overpowering, I used my 80+ blade skill on him, enchanting every attack with a potion and healing with about 20 health potions in a battle that lasted about 20 minutes only to finally die with the creature still having about 75% of its life left. I tried running past, since sneaking didnt work and found that there were roughly 10 more of those things in the area. I have since retried this area over several levels and cannot get a single creature close to even half way defeated and sneak simply will NOT work. This area has proven, so far, simply unplayable. If I could even kill one of the 10, I could save and restrategize.
Sometimes I just get the fealing that leveling up (skills, not just levels) doesnt do anything. (like lockpicking that still requires the same reflexes at level 50 as it did at level 1). Speed is another area that I don't get. My level is in the 90s and yet every animal short of mudcrabs is far faster than I am. I would opt to run instead of fight in several areas, but not only can the enemies keep up, but they can balance themselves for an attack while doing so. For most skills it seems you have to hit the quarter levels (25, 50, 75, 100) in order to really notice any improvements.
I believe Bethesda did a great job on this game and one of the reasons I had no problem shelling out $60 for this game in its opening week is due to their support of the editing tools from day one. I knew we could fix any problems that didnt turn out right once the game hit the masses.
