Way ta go GBM!
You're making me inspired to pick the game up again and start over... Then again "Temple of Elemental Evil" is coming out, prolly will give that a look see.

Right. So I've been avoiding the forums of late (the past month) because I was getting rather disappointed at the way things were heading - n00bs etc. So today I decide to pay a quick visit, see how things are going, and this is the first thread I read. GBM - thank you, for restoring my faith in these hallowed pages. I love you. :)
Ahem.
Regarding Morrowind though, my only advise is to savour the first time through. Stepping off the boat isn't quite as enchanting the 4th time through, when you know what lies ahead. The problem being that everything's so rigid - ironically, in such an open ended game as this, your choices really don't matter in the grand scheme of things - IMO, at least. It doesn't matter if you're an archer or a nightblade - Fargoth still loses his ring and ends up flirting with you. But alas, you've still far to go - enjoy. :D

Great post GBM.... it reminded me of the first week with Morrowind. I so saw myself in that post.

Well said, Stainboy.
Hopefully for TES 4 we'll see some more open-endedness in the Main Quest, a la Deus Ex. I think overall, though, Morrowind is pretty open ended, as you can choose what factions to join, how to conduct yourself, etc.
[SPOILERS AHEAD!!!]
However, in Morrowind and both expansions, the main quest is totally on rails. I found this particularly frustrating in Tribunal, where you know Almalexia is off her rocker, yet you're forced to do what she wants in order to move the story along.
LMAO GBM! That was me too that was. A bit further in now, I've not much left to explore but the surprises keep on a coming. Enjoy!
Are you gonna keep up with this diary?

The best tips I can give are:
- Use the paper map that came with the game to help navigate! :D
- The mini map always has North at the top. This means that the arrow is pointing in the direction you are travelling (i.e. if it is pointing to the right, you are travelling East).
- Save often. Some people have crashing problems every hour or so. And patch to the latest version you can.
- If you get your ass handed to in a fight, run away! You can always come back later when you have better equipment and have gained a few levels.
- Press F1 to assign quick keys. These can be items from your inventory or magical spells, and are activated by pressing the 1-9 keys. Good for quickly being able to drink potions or swap weapons during combat.
- There are two ways out of the Vivec canal works - the first is to find a ladder, and 'activate' it when name appears. The second is to jump into the water and exit through a vent at the ends. You will then have to find either land, or one of the ramps to get out of the water. You can also take Gondola rides to get around Vivec quickly and cheaply.
- Read all the books you can get your hands on! Be warned - the 36 Sermons of Vivec can cause headaches. Most of them are just great reads.
Umm, that's about it. :D Hope you enjoy your stay in Vvardenfell! :D

Great post GBM, and congratulations on your progress so far :). With luck, you'll find a lot more blow-your-mind areas with further exploration (the landscape and architecture can get seriously incredible).
In the RPG Hall of fame, Morrowind would be a serious contender for the title of best opening ever. The initial dose of atmopshere and immersion rivals even Planescape: Torment's ending. Hold on to the starting mood for as long as you can though, because once it slips... :erg:

*grumbles* Every ten to twenty minutes for
me. But then again, my computer has cancer. I had my friend check it over and that was all he could say... he couldn't find anything except a few spyware programs.

Originally posted by Illuminatus Hold on to the starting mood for as long as you can though, because once it slips... :erg: For me, I found it a lot of fun for a long time -- after a while you feel like you're the baddest mofo in the land and you can take anything on. Then I played Tribunal and Bloodmoon and it's basically back to square one again! In particular, starting Bloodmoon was a blast.
Of course, now that I've finished both expansions, the fun has mostly waned again. I'm also the head of EVERY faction, with the exception of Hlaalu and Telvanni. There's still other stuff out there, though.
[MINOR SPOILERS]
I could:
1. Join the Imperial Cult (but this looks WAAAY boring).
2. Use the console to join Hlaalu and Telvanni.
3. Become a vampire.
4. Become a werewolf.
5. Play with some mods/plugins.
Anybody recommend any mods? So far I've played Children of the Night and Haldenshore and found them a little on the cheesy side.
