I don't take mythbusters as a credible source. IMO half of their experiments are half-assed and entertainment driven. They don't control things properly sometimes.
Yes. "Silly".

if adding shit to your gas had any benefit it would have been discovered years ago and be common knowledge, not some super secret on the down low wink wink mason technique that gives you supergas

acetone is also a hell of a carcinogene, get a bike you friggin' cager. :p

Simply not true. I never go by sayings like that. It's like the old "ask anyone" arguement to prove your point, appealing to the masses to justify truth. This is similar because you're assuming that everyone should know about it if it's true and if it works.

the automobile has been around for 100 years. if simply adding some fucking preservative or whatever turned it into a rocketcar it would have been figured out LONG AGO, especially when the issue of how to make fuel more economic was investigated in the fucking 40s. It's not an issue of "my god this is so simple nobody would have thought of it!" it's an issue of anyone with a basic working knowledge of how shit gets done/physics knowing that gasoline + MYSTERY FLUID = SUPER GAS??? does not exist
its not like this is an issue of the jews/masons/reptilians/obama holding back development or THE SECRET KKKORPORATIONS WORKING FOR MONEY (POSSIBLY BU$HITLER???) DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW. If we landed on the moon 40 years ago we would have figured out if acetone in your gastank gives you another 10 MPG

Mythbusters had an (

Great Gas ConspiracyMyth: Automakers and fuel suppliers are in collusion to keep us dependent on expensive gasoline and inefficient cars. There are many devices that one can use to cut your fuel consumption.
They got a carbureted car and a fuel-injected car to test several types of devices. The cars were placed on a dynamometer, which allows the car to drive without moving anywhere.
Test devices and additives:
* Fuel line magnets: working on the "principles of hydrodynamics," they are supposed to align the molecules for more efficient consumption.
*
Acetone additive: supposed to make gasoline burn more efficiently
* 300mpg 'super' carburetor
* Hydrogen fuel cell generator: flammable hydrogen gas produced by electrolysis. Adam labeled it "Gasbuster: Stickin' it to the Man"
They tested each car on the dynamometer at 35mph and 55mph with each 'device.'
Carburetor car: * Baseline: 17mpg at 35mph and 25mpg at 55mph
* Magnets: exactly the same as baseline busted
*
Acetone: 16.7mpg at 35mph and 24mpg at 55mph
busted * Super carb: much worse than baseline, 12mpg at 35mph and 17.7mpg at 55mph busted
Fuel-injected car * Baseline: 19mpg at 35mph and 27mpg at 55mph
* Magnets: 18mpg at 35mph and 26mpg at 55mph busted
*
Acetone: 18mpg at 35mph and 26mpg at 55mph
busted[...]
Mythbusted:none of the devices they tested made the car more fuel efficient. The EPA has tested 104 of these devices, and only 7 showed improvement in fuel efficiency. However, none of these improved efficiency over 6%.

yeeees but Mythbusters are a couple dudes out to do bullshit science for entertainment purpouses

Agreed. I've seen OTHER experiments they've done, which I personally could criticize due to their poor implementation and equally poor results. I'm more interested in learning about the chemistry of acetone as well as the purported cooling effect and reduced surface tension. It seems to me that acetone and ethanol are not only chemically "similar" but also have similar benefits when added to gasoline. I'm still not sure why acetone is supposed to be superior to ethanol though. What I've read so far is that it is required in much lower concentrations and is therefore a more economic solution. Anybody with a chemistry degree who can speak to the chemical similarities between ethanol and acetone or why they put ethanol in the gas?
Also I'd like to point out that MPG may not be the only metric to go by when speaking of benefits. From my own experiences tuning I can tell you that sometimes screwing around with my air and spark tables I'll get better mileage, but under different conditions and a different tune i'll lose mileage but notice more power. So many variables....
...and AR Master, honestly, don't bother posting if you're going to be like that. You totally distorted my original post and made me look like I'm touting some miracle fluid, which I'm not and you're flying off the handle trying to make me look like a dumbass with your seemingly rhetorical statements. Not cool. You seem to think that science and technology and the knowledge acrued are 100% transparent to everyone. The world doesn't work that way.
