The other day I was wondering about the following thing: what Garrett does in his free time when he is not busy robbing tombs and helping fat nobles get rid of their surplus wealth. These are my findings:
- he is working at night, so it is natural that he spends his mornings and sometimes maybe early afternoons in bed,
- he seems to be fond of wine ("ah! my favourite year..."), maybe he opens a bottle of fine wine every now and then,
- he doesn't have a girlfriend or a wife (his superficial interest in Basso's sister and Viktoria does not count), at least we don't learn anything about his romantic relationships,
- he doesn't seem to have friends, except for some business acquaintances like Cutty, Basso, and Farkus,
Please post your suggestions. This is a serious thread, no jokes please.

Casing out places, pawning loot, thinking about retirement...
Seriously, tough, after becoming one of the most famous people in the City, he probably doesn't go out and about just like that or else there's a good chance someone would recognise him. Maybe there's a small tavern where he knows the owner and can get a private room and drink or something.

He gets out of the city. Mostly to keep the spying eyes off his back-side. I consider him part elvish so lots of woodland hunting and fishing when not practicing his craft.

His lack of friends probably limits what he does quite a bit given entertainment options in the setting would probably involve others a fair bit. He might be willing to drink with acquaintances now and then though.
He can also read (which is probably not too common) so he might do that sometimes, though nothing suggests he'd be particularly interested. He probably keeps fit training (we see he has a training room in Thief 3).
Given he does maintenance on his own eye he might have some tinkering skills too, that he could mess with sometimes.

I think he tries to keep a low profile at all times, so he reads at home (maybe of possible places to rob in the future), drinks wine at home, or goes to pubs where other characters like him hang around. He doesn't always interact with them, only when there are job opportunities.

In Garrett's apartment in Thief 3, we can see a few books on the shelf. Garrett was educated by the Keepers, so we can take for granted that he read a lot in his teenage years and adolescence. Don't forget that in addition to his exceptional thievery skills, our protagonist is also a very intelligent person. He probably detests "official education", but nothing stops us from suggesting that he enjoys reading books and expanding his knowledge (mostly for his selfish purposes, but still).

I strongly agree. As the game progresses, Garrett is becoming more and more recognizable and known, to the point when ordinary people on the streets are familiar with his wrongdoings (and possibly a few positive deeds such as defeating Trickster and Karras).

There's reasonable probability that he hones his thieving skills during his spare time. Though he mostly robs for the money and survival, he seems to take some pleasure in it as well. Like others mentioned, I also think he shoots the breeze with Basso, and goes out for a pint once in a while.
