The worker and spider bots may carry an orb within a secret compartment. Never seen one being used, but perhaps that explains why the vent/refueling port is on their backside. Would have been so much more practical if they could refuel themselves and protect the vulnerable spot.
All the children's eyes are modeled after Garrett's, just larger due to mass producibility. Cant expect Karros's meticulous nature be fully reproduced by his inferiors. Those idolizing, hero worshipping hammarite high priests took Karros's prized humanitarian gift to the blinded and gave it to a thieving ungrateful Garrett. Well didn't he show them he could make a cult to follow his thinking.
Oh well, The 'City' remains a cesspool of corruption thanks to Garrett. Doesn't Garrett's fleshy eye in T3 look so much like the 'Eye' in T1? Maybe in another 20 years, year 75 Garrett dies and his flesh one is possessed and the whole thing happens again in the 80's.

Anyone noticed that guards and bots have a very keen sense of smell? That is the only way I can think of to explain how they know which wall you are crouched against when searching for you. Run into a pitch black room and whether you crouch against the left wall, the right wall, or somewhere in the middle, they will home in on you.
Also the watchers. They keep track of you during their alerted state even when you have ducked behind a wall and should be invisible to them. But move a bit along the wall and you can hear then whirring to keep up on the other side.
Then there are the robots with metal feet who do not clang on metal, unlike those without metal feet who do. Not a smell thing just strange :)
Well anyway, who needs scouting orbs when just raising your alert level gives you psychic abilities.

I'm sure it was possible on technology at the time. A game from 4-5 years later, Metal Gear Solid 3 actually did this kind of thing where the first person view is a bit obscured after you lose an eye as part of the story, but those games have a really high attention to small details and Thief was really a concept game that had to get a lot of other things right and they probably didn't have time to sweat the small stuff.
