Do people really pay money to eat this stuff?

also i found out today the gems of sarnath are Mystic's Heart and Mystic's Soul, so i guess garrett stole them the first time pre thief 1 then somehow they got put where they were when we have to re get them in thief 1
and since they knew who took them as for the wanted poster of garrett, that is probably how he was already so well known in thief 1
would make for a great fan mission

a fan mission series would be nice to have the pre history of thief 1 as far back as the kath ra din era then flash forward to post thief 3 and continue the story there, like garrett was having a flash back of his life before his eyes waking up in a cell in post thief 3 and having to escape before he is put to death, due to the clocktower collapse ???
basically we need a pre thief 1 history fill in, and a post thief 3 continuation so we know what is going on, i refuse to wait to see the master builder to have all these questions answered

Look at the company listing. It's a car rental place. I have no idea what the word tofu means in the local dialect.
---
However, tofu is a traditional food that's been made for centuries (2000 years in China). If it's bad, that's in the west, because of people who can't fucking cook using an ingredient they don't understand, for a purpose it's not intended for. "Modern", "trendy", and "hipster" are not words that associate with tofu in Asian cooking.
Asking who buys that in *Singapore* is like questioning the existence of bakeries.
In Japan for example, it's not a "meat substitute". It's not a substitute for anything. It's used in many traditional dishes that people consume their whole lifetime. So, it's your mother's and grandmother's cooking. It's not a choice: refusing to eat it would earn a smack from your mother for not appreciating the food. Recipes which use tofu, as well as being culturally significant, are also the nostalgic foods of growing up in Japan.
I think that highlights why it's "bad" in the West. It's been removed from any cultural context, then instead of having dishes which are built around using it, it's thrown into random dishes which are SUPPOSED to have a specific type of meat, then tofu is then inserted as a "substitute".
With Japanese dishes which include tofu, such as Nabe, I think you'd eat that and not necessarily realize "I ate tofu" because it's just an integral ingredient to the whole thing, and not trying to trick you that it's filling in for something else that's missing.

Pretty sure Azaran was making a joke because there's a Garrett line in Thief 1 after you reads a script at the opera:
"People really pay money to see this stuff?"
In any case, I've had authentic tofu. It's alright. And yeah, it wasn't really a substitute- it was its own thing as there was also meat in the dish.

Well no wonder i don't know it. I had OG Thief 1, and that's from Thief Gold, which has several additional missions added. I may have played through Thief Gold one time, but I'm not very familiar with the added missions. I really disliked the Thieves Guild mission so wasn't that fussed on it.

Well I for one enjoyed your marxist analysis of tofu, here in a Thief forum. I think you could be interested in a book called The Mushroom at the End of the World, which is about the displaced cultivation of matsutake mushrooms and it's commercial chains. It's an antrophological book about cultivators and the role of the mushroom in it's traditional asian cuisine, not a handbook or an economy book. It's way more fun than I'm making it sound. Your tofu musings are right up that alley.

I think I told you before but you're my favourite person here downwinder, I find you fascinating and funny. How did you even came up with this random company?
