Thanks for settling my mind on that one Glaswolf, it does however mean that I'm back to square one and have no idea why i can't play the missions with GL. Perhaps it would be useful for Potterr or anyone with a working t3 mission to start a thread listing all working GL compatible missions (including version numbers) and any tweaks needed for missions that aren't quite fully compatible yet?
It would get the ball rolling on standardisation of mission format and let Potterr know whats needed for future GL releases.

I'll start a new thread a bit later once I have had a look at ascottk's issue.
However as far as I am concerned the T3 FM's that work fine are:
TDS_Townhouse_v2.zip
SFM_zSchism_v4.zip
TDS_Krellek-Labyrinth.zipThese are all playable with T3MainReleaseVersion.exe (this is the one on my site, renamed to T3MAIN.exe to make it easier for you), t3MainOptVersion.exe (currently using this renamed to T3MAIN.exe so I can see if theer are any FM issues when loading up FMs).
Also T3.exe which came on the DVD/CDs works fine, but I am also using the 69k T3.exe that came in the editor as its a bit quicker (I may also provide this on my site if required, although the original should work fine).
I have also added:
Code:
'[PCVertexPools]
;added 0 to the end of each...
DynamicVertexPool0 = 31457280
StaticVertexPool = 26214400
StaticShadowVertexPool = 15728640
to my user.ini file, although version 1.02 of GL does not check or do anything with this, version 1.11 will (it was only recently discovered to be required).
I am, however, running version 1.11 or GL at the moment which resolves a save game issue and a few extra bug fixes, although I have had alot of reports that version 1.02 works fine for the above FMs.
ascottk,
Could you do a check for me, when you install and FM from the original T3 setup, does the entry.gmp file get added to the original_backup.zip file in the root of the t3 install folder? (I noticed on mine it worked fine for townhouse but I now notice it has not even been backed up on schizm....hmmm somethings amiss there however the ResetToDefault.zip should restore things for the moment).

Hi potterr, I've been testing with a nearly released version of Krellek's Labyrinth. It takes a few tries installing it & once it's installed it'll play alright. But when I go back to the original I lose the Entry.gmp & some Minimalist mods.
I'm making a revision of Labyrinth & I'll see if the backups are there. I'll post when the revisions are done & ready to test.

Cool a new FM...I have done a bit of scanning and found that a few files are not backed up properly for T3, not too sure why yet. I will be doing alot of bug fixes over the weekend and will spend a few hours fixing then...but yes you have spotted a bug... :nono: :nono: :nono:
Oh well version 1.11 will be much better than I thought it would be. :cheeky:

BTW, I used the GL writer but I can't reopen the file for editing. I ended up using notepad. I get a "Type mismatch" error.
potterr on 18/8/2005 at 20:02
ascottk, you don't by any chance still have the file that you could send me?

I never quite imagined my first post to on TTLG to be a bug post but I think you all may find this interesting. I have encountered an Odd behavior using Garret Loader v1.02....
Firstly, I will expllain my setup directory setup..
I have three installations of Thief DS located in the following directories.
c:\Thief3Edit (For Editing Obviously)
c:\Thief3 (For Normal Gameplay and FM's)
c:\Thief-DS (for original Game and troubleshooting)
I found that (after re-installing all 3 directories) I then Installed GL to utilise the c:\Thief3 directory. I then tried for quite some time to get an FM to actually work. I have had no luck...
An interesting discovery however....
When I installed GL it prompted me to change my savegame directory to which I said yes. But after several hours of bewilderment I realized that SOME files (For FM's and restorations) performed by GL are actually going into the c:\Thief-DS folder which I did not specify GL to use. Futhermore GL placed my "moved" savegame directory into this folder. Not the the c:\Thief3 folder which is "Still" specified in the setup Dialog.
I have no idea what has been moved and what has not been moved so I guess I am going to Have to re-Install Thief DS again :mad:
I would like to help you resolve this problem as I and I know a lot of others "REALLY" would like to play some FM's!
I am about 30% into my first Thief3 FM myself so I would like to (as well as many others) hammer (pun intended) out a solid format for distributing FM's in a reliable and easy to use fashion.
Edit....
I forgot to mention that I had also encountered the same error when trying to run any FM. Not sure if it is related but Thief DS was reporting that it was Unable to find "Quotes.sch" for the particular FM I was attempting to play. Restoring the directoryies Using the Original.zip seems to fix this problem. I have gone through the forums for troubleshooting but i have not found any discussion on this error. Oh, And I did in fact use the recomended T3Main.exe and several others to no avail..
If you need anything specific I am going to leave GL and its directories intact for the time being, if you need anything for troubleshooting just let me know ;)

This may be partly to do with the registry settings. GL looks at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ion Storm\Thief - Deadly Shadows\SaveGamePath" to determine where the save games are located and then moves to whatever "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ion Storm\Thief - Deadly Shadows\ION_ROOT" is.

Problem here is that I wasn't really expecting people to have 3 versions of T3 installed, and have no idea what your registry would now look like with 3 instances installed (i.e. do you have 3 of the above registry settings?)

its a simple change to the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ion Storm\Thief - Deadly Shadows\SaveGamePath" key from wherever it was to the games location in a SAVES folder.

there are now 3 that work fine with GL :D

What would be best here is to let me know what you have in your registry for the 3 T3 install locations as I would hope that the ION_ROOT path would not be just 1 location (the first or the last install).

Not sure about this, I am starting to think that I need to create a better bug reporting process in it (i.e. some kind of GL error id for each process), which would make it much easier to diagnose problems.

A few people have said this, I'm not sure why this is the case as I am using the T3MAIN.exe and its running fine, although I do not have the editor installed.

Cheers, definately will need to.
For a start for T2/T1 FMs could I have a copy of the Current_install.txt file for that game (in the games folder) and the name of the zip file.
Secondly the debug.log file in the GL root folder,
Finally your T3 registry details (mainly the ION_ROOT locations).

check which folder you selected the t3.exe file in. If you accidentally selected Thief-DS then your saves would be moved to there instead.
BTW Garettloader is designed so that you can play the original game and FMs on one install so that might be a problem. Try having only two installs, one for the editor and one for the game and FMs,

Okay peeps...
Give me a bit to get this stuff together for you and i will send off my bits.
I will poke around my registry and see what is specified as the Install path. Was just a bit baffled as only ONE Instance of Thief3 is Actually installed (Thief3 dir) the other two are copied, but i suppose the registry keys are somehow generated when each instance is run? I don't know, still baffled.. I'll grab that info for you and then get back to trying to play these FM's :D If i can pull myself away from the editor for a few moments that is :p .
