If I told you that there exists an activity that involves...
* Running around on rooftops
* Getting to difficult to reach places
* Leaping large gaps, grabbing the wall on the other side and pulling yourself up
...you might be forgiven for thinking that this activity also involves carrying a bow and knocking people out.
However, I am speaking of the sport of Parkour (also known as "freerunning"). It might have been invented by Garret himself, if not for the curious fact that it originates from France.
What is this Parkour? Well, I have never been able to put it into words, but if you see a video clip of it, you might get a feeling of eerie familiarity.
(Or you might just be impressed by someone:
* Backflipping off a 40 foot structure
* Jumping from a rooftop, across a street, and landing on a roof that is 1 storey (sp?) lower
* Running up to a wall *literally* more than twice their height and managing to get over it
Note: All of these seemingly impossible feats have been recorded as video clips on the net.)
After seeing the clips, I'm convinced that Garret himself must have been a traceur! (a practitioner of parkour).:eek:

Actually, Garrett is a very shitty traceur if at all. The acrobatic movement skills in Thief are basically limited to mantling. I'd say that the modern Prince of Persia and Tomb Raider games are far closer to parkour in video games.
I'm pretty sure that the (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkour) wikipedia article on parkour used to link to some snazzy videos but they seem to be gone. Searching for them in youtube or google videos should provide some interesting results, however.
Edit: this is one of my favourites:

But did any group of Traceurs make a video where they were acted like tomb raiders, or persian princes? Nay! Nay I say. (I say nay?)
However, one of the first videos made was a group of traceurs acting as thieves, stealing to heal a kid who tried to copy what they did.
Edit: Quoted from (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkour) Wikipedia:
"In 2001 French filmmaker Luc Besson made a feature film, Yamakasi — Les samouraï des temps modernes (Yamakasi — the modern-day Samurai), featuring members of the original Yamakasi. The film tells the (fictional) tale of a group of young thieves who use their parkour skills to evade capture, while stealing money to fund the healthcare of a child that was injured copying their parkour training."
Parkour is the art of getting somewhere you aren't supposed to be, and then being able to get the hell away, efficiently.
Garret embodies the spirit of Parkour, if not the technique.

Whatever, I'm all about the showy backflips anyway.
I've posted this one about crazy russian kids before, but in case you lot missed it, here's it again: (

Not I. I'm all about the i-am-trying-to-get-my-arms-strong-enough-to-do-a-passe-muraille-or-a-saut-de-chat-without -breaking-both-my-kneecaps.
I think the efficiency and the elegance of it appeals to me.
