is gaming on a laptop feasible nowadays? i know there used to be kind of a stigma around it... can you get almost the same performance in games as on a desktop?

Well laptops that can play games at decent settings and with good performance are quite bulky (not forgetting to mention quite pricey). It defeats the purpose of having a laptop really.

No. No No No.
Every once in a while I see a notebook owner crying that this new game and that new game performs poorly on his notebook.
As for 3+ years old things, browser based games and flash games, it's great.

I bought one of (
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4135) these (well, not quite, mine's a bit better but basically the same), and it'll run STALKER, Bioshock, and Gears of War well at fairly high settings and resolutions of at least 1280x800.
For the same price I could've got a much better desktop gaming PC, but I needed the portability, and I don't game much. But it's definitely possible.

it's pretty much all intel's fault
do not buy a laptop with an intel igp (integrated graphics) if u wish to run any games (also avoid ati X200)
