...I'm pretty sure everything sucks, and I'm trying to break into the wrong damn industry.
Maybe that's the reason you should be trying to break into the industry. More people need to realize what sucks, and try to do their own little thing to fix the problem.

RE Jim Sterling - I don't know his past but been enjoying his Jimquisition piece on Escapist. But he has been getting a bit repetitive and trite lately, basically reiterating the same points in the same way over and over. And sometimes seems like he's trying too hard ("look at this wacky zany prop, look LOOK are you amused yet ?")

I used to go by a similar mentality, and then several years passed and I noticed I had no money despite working all that time, due to buying all the games with the nice covers and screenshots on the back. Never a good thing.
Well, by interesting I mean from store pages/genre/screenies/ttlg/website mentions etc. So lots more factors than fancy boxes and wacky screensots, but not really a single review or anything.

Even though I agree with Walker 99% of the time, I too get annoyed with the strident self-righteousness he sometimes displays - whether it's in the more political/ideological posts or in ones about How Gaming Goes Wrong. Grayson also has that stridency at times, and while I think it's fair for journalists to be more critical, there's better, smarter and more interesting ways of doing it.

Everyone hates him and I don't know why.
Can someone link to something bad he did/said?
I asked this before but its worth repeating - are there any good review sites anymore? RPS is okay for PC stuff, and Crate and Crowbar is great (but too long). Are there any general gaming sites that are any good?

I still like Eurogamer, although I only read reviews of games I'm interested in, which often means that the reviews are by the same small bunch of people.
Re: John Walker, IMO he often tends to shut down conversation with people who aren't on the same side as him. I understand that with misogynist dicks who are predisposed to not getting what he's arguing, but with people who are on the fence he's definitely not using the smartest conversational strategies. There's an element of "If you're not with me, you're against me" to some of his stuff. Which, even though I largely agree with him, can rub me the wrong way.

I hated the Christmas Cracker jokes too, but then I hate Christmas Cracker jokes - they're to humour what Adolf H. was to sensible, humane governance.
