RPS is the only gaming news site that I check on, on a daily basis. Yes it doesn't always have opinions I agree with (they bagged 7th Guest and some other games I love for example), but meh that's fine. I would far rather read honest opinions than 100% positive reviews where the review scores are just stupid. More often than not, they call a spade a spade, and for that they have my respect. Their forums aren't half bad either.
They only thing I'd criticize them on, speaking from a indie game dev perspective is that they practically never respond to any emails you send to them regarding games advertising / getting them to check your game out. Tried several times in the past without any responses.
I used to check by ign.com quite often, but due to the silly review scores as mentioned and overly positive reviews of games that don't deserve it I've stopped for the most part. I quite liked their "podcast beyond" segment over in the playstation section of the site. Quite amusing the majority of the time + they managed to get David Hayter on it once which was awesome.

They don't rely too heavily on clickbait or white-knight outrage porn. But then they fired Jim Sterling
I'm confused. Which is it? Jim Sterling = Clickbait to the max.
Anyway, it sounds like they're turning into Gamespot.

This is not how you do social justice. Kotaku uses it for clickbait, and RPS is entirely the wrong place for it, though I suppose there
is no other way to get a message across to RPG Codex rejects, is there? Which is a shame all by itself.
One thing I've always wondered for people who insist that a particular gaming site/blog is not the place for discussing issues relating to sexism/racism/general bigoted fuckery, just where are we supposed to discuss these things then? Oh right, I don't actually wonder. Because anyone with an ounce of honesty knows the answer is "LA LA CAN'T HEAR YOU GO AWAY LA LA LA NO FEMINAZI'S RUINING MY GEAMEEESSS!!!!"
Oh, and anyone who actually uses the term "white knight" with a straight face can officially fuck off.

I read RPS most days, and ignore the things I don't like about it.
Occasionally I'll read EuroGamer, mostly because Paz used to write for them. I quite enjoyed today's (
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-01-15-retrospective-doom) Doom Retrospective. (Although it was written nearly a year ago now).
Oh, and IGN RITE GUYS (10/10)

Who cares what the sites' opinions are? Even if you disagree with opinions, if there's news to be had, imo, I will read it anyway. I follow many sites. I don't just use one, that way not only do you get various opinions but you make sure that you are getting a lot of news from different places. Unless these sites are outright lying about stuff, I see no reason not to use them. I'm talking about factual stuff, like "this game comes out on november 15th." Stuff like that. Not "I'm a game reviewer website and I hate this game."
Reviews should always be taken with a grain of salt (at least when it comes to the numerical score at the end of a review) and there's another reason right there to not just follow one specific site. I like to be informed about my interest in video games, so for me personally I look at various sources.

It's a throwback to British Future Publishing magazine writing styles and even further back, stuff like Crash and Your Sinclair. The guys on the site would probably claim Amiga Power as being the biggest influence, but I'd argue the zany style in British games journalism owes the largest debt to good ol' YS.
Yeah, I like it for this reason too, natch.
But I agree with dethtoll - there are no good games journalism sites. I read Kotaku most days because it reports a bunch of stuff and there is usually info about something I want to know about, even though the writing is terrible and a lot of the "news" is nonsense. I hate the Escapist for their horrible, horrible interface. It's even hard to get to Zero Punctuation these days. And I hated Extra Credits with such a passion that I find it hard to even go back there (unless its for ZP).
What to do? :(

Amstrad Action and PC Format all the way!

Hmm, this thread just made me realize i never read game reviews. Mostly i buy games if they look interesting or i heard a lot of good about one from a variety of sources. Ttlg recommendations also factor in.
That being said, i do check RPS but mostly skim it for gaming news than reviews. Also watch rev3games (particularly Adam sessler) and total biscuit content patches.

Five years ago, yeah. Jim Sterling started off as a dyed in the wool troll (as opposed to Kotaku's po-faced sensationalism) and it was hilarious -- plus he was still saying things that needed to be said. He eventually turned into a generally stand-up guy and great commentator who was probably the best thing to happen to Destructoid in years.

I used to go by a similar mentality, and then several years passed and I noticed I had no money despite working all that time, due to buying all the games with the nice covers and screenshots on the back. Never a good thing.
