Well written article, just the screenshot is a bit stupid.

A good enough moment from SS2, one of the few gaming moments that gave me a genuine crawling feeling of dread.

What gets me is why they didn't mention is the effect getting chased by frekken SPIDERS can have on you. hybrids, sure...you can fairly easily whack those on the run, spiders, you have to bloody crouch to hit half the time.

But then they didn't mention a lot of things. It's clearly focused on that one revealing moment.

I didn't find that instance to be scary at all... I mean, I'd had plenty of time to see it coming.
I'd put the engineering bay on the top of the list, myself.

In my opinion, Engineering is by far the scariest deck. Operations is scary as hell too, but not scary enough to beat the Cargo Bays. :o

Being chased by spiders is an entirely different thing from the sudden realization of isolation and helplessness that this moment establishes in the game. Part of why those spider scenes are so scary is held up by the undercurrents of important moments that are, in themselves, not adrenaline-pumpingly scary. The scene mentioned provides a significant amount of the context of the game, and every scary moment within it.

The really messy parts of Hydro creeped me out, as well as some parts of body of the many.

I think the biggest scare for me was when you get your first "flying" visit to the BOTHM while your near the cargo decks. You know, your walking along, on edge from all the hybrids, turrets and protocol driods. Then your suddunly somewhere completely different with this wierd voice in your head!
It might have been because I was playing with headphones on, in a dark room, in the middle of the night......
