I noticed a news item on Blues News from today (18th) about a video from GamesHQMedia about the new Thief game at E3.
Quote:
A new video from GamesHQMedia offers the Thief presentation from E3 2013, showing the on-stage demonstration of the upcoming stealth/action reboot. The 30+ minute clip includes cinematics and gameplay footage, shot using the PlayStation 3 edition of the game, and is accompanied by a Q&A where Eidos Montreal lays out the vision for the game.

Thanks for the links!
I'm not a fan of the whole focus thing (just seems asinine), and I still cannot get past the goddamn hands floating around (even more asinine, plus cringe worthy...and laugh inducing after a few drinks....seriously, just have Garrett holding a blackjack!). But other than that, it looks like a fun game with the potential for experimentation with different game play styles and the opportunity to explore.
I'd certainly play it if I ever buy a new console.

I love this comment posted on Youtube:

Man...That was disappointing. Thief was never been a game that encourages you to go lethal way. "Aggressive or Non-Lethal" thing is not gonna work for Thief. It worked for Dishonored because Corvo is an assassin. Garrett isn't an assassin, he's a thief, and he's never been a 'badass'. And unfortunately, they will design the levels and mechanics according to that approach.
I don't like what i saw, not a bit.
Did I watch the same demo as this person? When, exactly, was violence
encouraged?

It's the XP man, you get 40 for a headshot. Who could resist that?

Every time your HUD prompted you to "Press R1 for a Takedown"?

So is that any more encouragement than having a blackjack in hand and the opportunity to whack everyone in sight over the head if you want to? Or stab everyone in the back with a sword? Or shoot them in the face with an arrow?
Seriously, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't damn near every console based game constantly flash up button controls as a reminder of what can be done, and the player chooses what to do? I honestly don't know, because I haven't played that many. But those games that I have played do just that.

Experience! Shooting someone in the head means you can get more points to upgrade your lockpicking skills at the end of the mission!

It's a little dark, but there's a dead guy in there somewhere who's been...headshot. You get 40 XP for that to upgrade Garrett's mad skillz. I'd say that's encouraging the player go the violent route.

Yeah, if they're going to use XP in a Thief game, there should be a minus sign in front of that 40.

Yes, actually.
It's the difference between being in a grocery store that sells frozen pizzas, and being in a grocery store where an employee comes up to you and says, "Hey, you can buy this pizza right now for $5!! Do you want it?"

I
really like that idea and think it would be in keeping with a thief who isn't a murderer and doesn't want to attract attention to himself. Just sayin'.
