Ooops, I really have to intervent on this one.
Guys... thanks for loving the game, thanks for helping out with bugs, but please... don't think there is a bug everytime you're stuck. The key to open the backdoor in the bank is not the key that is on Gary's body... this one only opens the bank.
If you want more hints, just email me, I won't give out the secret here :)

Hi Raf - just dropping a note to say congratulations on Arx' launch in Deutscheland. I was one of the harsher critics of the beta when it announced here in the forums a few months ago. Judging by what I've seen and heard so far, looks like you guys listened to people's feedback and implemented your own changes too. Awesome. Anyhow, just wanted to say thanks and congratulations. Not everyone can take a kick in the nuts and keep smiling. You're bona fide game developer material.:thumb:

But a guy on the JoWood-board said he was able to open the backdoor to the bank with one of Gary's keys, but only if he uses the key directly on it and not via the keyring.
One more thing that made me think it's a bug, is the fact that when I use the keyring on that door it makes the same noise as if it has been unlocked with it, but the door is still locked.
And if you could give me a hint on the treasure-hunt (we already have all five hints but don't know where to find it and what to open it with), that would be really nice. Just drop me an email quorthon@splunge.de
Thanks and MANY MANY Thanks again for this great game. It's a game in a long time that used up all my spare-time (for good) :)

Okay, I just entered it into the bugs database, because I also was able to just open the backdoor to the bank, but on another try was not able to do this. I will need to check this more closely to see which way it is. I remember to have two keys. Hm, must really check this.

I think we are talking about different keys/doors here. So, for clarification:
Gary carries a small golden key, and this opens the second door to the bank, the one that leads to Gars working space. It works in my case with or without attaching to the key-ring.
The other key I was not able to make (just got the impression, but nothing seems to work on it - hm, must try enchant object). So it is unclear were it fit's and if it works on the keyring or only standalone.

@Raf
Well, I just checked Gary's keys again and I'm very sure, that there is a bug, unfortunately.
Gary is carrying four keys, three iron and one golden key. The golden key opens the part behind the bars, reachable through the secret passage. It also looks exactly like the key you can rebuild in the dwarven smithery using the clay-inprint from Alicia's house. I guess, they are identical. One of the iron keys opens Gary's house, the two other iron keys open the trapped chest and one of them also opens the second entrance to the bank (the one leading to the part, where Gary is staying while in the bank).
BUT: the one key opening the second entrance to the bank does not work, if I put it on the keyring together with the golden key. I checked it a couple of times:
iron key directly on door -> door opens
iron key on keyring and then keyring on door -> door opens
iron key AND golden key on keyring and then keyring on door -> door does make an "unlock" sound, but it doesn't open.
And one more question on the secret passage in the bank:
how dows it open??? As you might have noticed, I've been in the secret passage once, but I don't know how I opened the door. What I did was the following:
after I found the fifth hint on the treasure hunt (on level 8) I went back to Arx, checking Gary's keys. While I was standing in the bank, preparing for some spells, the secret door suddenly opened on its own. I didn't do anything and I couldn't see Gary doing anything special. Only the guard was close the door. So what's going on? What's the trick???
Oh, and are the treasure-hunt and the bank related? After all the bank is in the southwest corner of the map...
If you don't want to answer this on the forum drop me a private message or send me an email to quorthon@splunge.de
Thanks!

In my case, the small golden key opens the door that leads to the working place of gary. So something is fishy here....
