Is today the day for the Game Informer podcast? Their past shows have been on Thursdays, so hopefully when I wake up, it'll be uploaded. As a nocturnal taffer, I keep sleeping through the hours of new media releases and immediate discussion, dangit. :bored:

You could be right, but I thought it was Friday (tomorrow).

Thief was one of the few FPS games to implement a sword and do it well.
Can't agree with this. The sword
could have been implemented well with some more effort, but I find the melee system way too simple now. It's just
slash, dodge, slash, dodge ... repeat until the enemy dies. It's not very challenging and not very fun in my opinion - basically you're just taking advantage of the stupid AI of your enemies. There's the "block attack" move that could be really cool, but it doesn't seem very reliable and it's practically useless anyway, it's so much easier just to dodge the attacks. I really wish that they had spent a little more time tweaking the melee fighting in the older Thief games, but I'm hoping that they've sorted that out in Thief 4.

It would have been cool if you had the option to leave it behind when choosing equipment or substitute it for the dagger.
I totally agree with this though. A sword could be more useful in some situations, but I feel that the dagger is generally a more suitable weapon for a thief.

Fans will be happy to hear that old school style melee combat is still there like the classic Thief games, and it's just as challenging.
Sounds good! I won't be happy if the melee combat is "just as challenging" as in the classic Thief games though, because like I mentioned above, I don't find it particularly challenging, but I can live with that if it's
fun at least. :p

You don't even have to go there, its up to you if you want to participate in any form of fighting/combat.
For gamers who love a pure stealth approach. it is confirmed that the game can be completed without killing anybody.

On what grounds are you confirming that you can play through the entirety of Thief IV without being forced to participate in combat, not even once? Because, if that was miraculously true, then game would already be somewhat worthy! How can you be trusted?!?!

Well, for contrast, I wouldn't trust you around valuables or small children. I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, despite a [citation needed] here and there.

Honestly though, this was the first time I have actually laughed *with* dethtoll in quite a long while now! :cheeky: (proper use of cheeky *cough*, not every single damn post) :p ;)

If it's true, it wouldn't be all that surprising. You could go through the entirety of Dishonored without killing a single person. Same for DX:HR (well, besides those stupid boss battles anyway, but they weren't important). If you can do the same in New Thief, it wouldn't shock me in the least.

If it's in Thief, Renz', it wouldn't shock us, either, 'cause we expect it. It will shock us if there is no impact on level design for having it there, and that's what we hope for.
No band-aid fixes affecting the foundation to get an unnecessary kewl addition working in the framework it's been shoehorned into. Again.
