Gamedaily.com has a good
(but short) preview and some good game info & some excerpts are below:
Quote:
The game starts in futuristic Detroit in the year 2027, 25 years before the original Deus Ex story unfolds. Nanotechnological augmentations are all the rage. Adam Jensen, a private security officer with one of the top augmentation companies, is a specialist in the area, to the point that he even has several of his own. However, after witnessing a startling attack within his own company (and seeing a strange vision involving a rebirth, as highlighted in the GDC trailer), he finds himself at odds, and the conspiracy begins, with special ops soldiers hunting him down.
With multiple locations like DX & seems his apartment is somewhat of a home base:
Quote:
Second, Detroit isn't the only city you'll visit. Five locations are featured, including futuristic takes on Shanghai and Montreal, among others. Third, Adam can revisit his apartment over the course of the game, which acts as a hub to store all his secrets and classified information. (It's a save point for all your progress.)
Regenerative Health:
Quote:
One of the biggest additions in Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a regenerating health system
4 Augmentation Systems:
Quote:
If there's anything that thrusts the game forward, it's the augmentation system. Here, you'll be able to use alterations to help you move on in the story, fighting against enemies (or, in some cases, passing them by) and changing things as you go. There are four types in all: Combat, Stealth, Technology and Social. How you use these augmentations is completely up to you, and they can totally change how you play the game.
And both 3rd and 1st person views:
Quote:
The camera perspective can also shift from the traditional first to third-person, depending on what you're using at the time.

Thanks for the link Garrett. Not really anything new revealed there, although one part did catch my eye:
Quote:
The game will also highlight specific targets over the course of the game, particularly squad leaders. Anyone can go and waste entire groups of a squad. Take down the leader, though, and the rest of the squad panics.
I like the sound of that; for your enemies to become disorganised and demoralised through the death of their commander. Could make for a nice little tactical advantage in-game.

Detroit, huh? Gonna lose your mind in DE-TROIT Bot City...
Anyway, I was hoping for Chicago. It was where the Tarsus brats were when the opening cinematic shut levelled the place. Wanted to see what all the hoo-ha in Chicago was before that.

Double :( for the Halo wannabes. "If your arms and legs get blown off, just go hide and wait for 3 seconds, and they'll just grow back. What a technology!" Boohoo

Sigh.... the key event that sets the original Deus Ex story in motion is that Paul Denton (and his clone JC) is the
first person to be successfully nano-augmented. This kind of gaping inconsistency pretty much guarantees that any familiar characters/story threads from the original games are incompatible with this one.
It's a shame, because so much of the action in Deus Ex is a reaction to Important Things that occurred about 20 years earlier (Page's rebellion against Everett, MJ12 and Daedalus's origins, Paul's childhood, etc). A serious prequel that actually had a clue what happened in the first title would have a lot of story potential, especially since Deus Ex's unusually high number of old characters means you could have a lot of familiar faces in their 30s/40s here.

regenerative health, you know, because it's an improvement over location-based damage of the first title. Why should it make a difference where you have been shot ? YOU ARE THE MESSIAH. you can switch to a ghost living behind you, looking over your shoulder as soon as you find COVER.

I would suspect that that is probably a mistake of the reporter rather than the actual game plot. He probably meant to say 'mechanical augmentation'.

That does seem to be what we've seen from other previews.

I would actually be interested to see how a mechanical augmentation would work out. Its probably just going to function exactly like the nano ones from the original, but I think they could make this interesting and have the lead character become obviously augmented as the plot goes on. After all, Gunther and Anna were top of the line before JC came along..
I'd like to see it work out as a kind of combat vs. diplomacy thing. Plan on shooting your way through your problems? Go ahead and get the glowy cyber eyes and steel plates riveted to your skull. Plan on talking your way through it? You'd better keep your glaring machinery under a t-shirt or something.
Probably won't work out like that, tho.
