I've kinda scheduled an Arma session for this weekend, though I don't know who's planning to attend.

Oops, fergot!
ARMA it is then. Mebbe Sunday for B4B?
Thirith on 19/10/2021 at 06:57
I'm afraid I'll have to do some work on Sunday afternoon, though if I'm done early I might join for a bit, if you need a bot replaced by an equally incompetent non-bot, though one with more varied lines. :p

So, Sony just reconfigured their subscription service, seemingly to compete the Gamepass. It's a bit of a mess, and it seems like it could have been done better and far less confusing. They have 3 tiers:
Essential - $10/mo, this works like the old Playstation Plus service, where you get access to 2 PS4 games and 1 PS5 game per month. Games change on a monthly basis.
Extra - $15/mo, everything on the previous tier, plus access to a large catalog of older PS4 and some PS5 games.
Premium - $18/mo, all previous tiers, plus access to their "classics" collection, which is made up of old PS1/PS2/PS3 games.
My two main beefs:
I used to subscribe to Playstation Now, which no longer exists. This gave you access to the classics catalog, and you could buy a year for $60, or $5/mo. Now to get all the classics, you're forced to buy the Premium tier, which is $120 for the year, or $10/mo. So that cost has basically doubled.
Also, Sony supposedly redid the service to compete with Gamepass, but from what I can see, Gamepass is $10/mo, and to get something similar in Playstation Plus, you'd have to subscribe to the Extra tier, which is $15/mo. Not really sure how that's competing with Gamepass, at a 50% higher cost. I also get the impression that Sony is not offering up any brand new/day one games in any of their tiers, which Gamepass does.
Having just bought a PS5, I kind of wanted to commit 100% to the Playstation ecosystem, but being that Gamepass is such a good deal, even after Sony reconfigured everything, I can't see making the switch.
I wish they would just do an ala carte system, where you pay individually for each thing you wanted - online service, monthly games, game catalog, classics catalog, etc. But I'm sure Sony would just rather rope people in to the highest tier possible.

It is very confusing and seems like a bad value. Personally I don't want to stream anything ever, so I won't be subscribing to any of the higher tiers. Before the new service launched I was on a one-year subscription to PSPlus that I got at half price during a holiday sale, and I'm wondering if those kinds of sales are still going to happen under the new model.
Sony probably can't afford to do day-one stuff like Microsoft, but they do have a really interesting back catalogue full of strange niche titles and Japan-only stuff, which could have made it worthwhile. Instead it looks like we're getting a Nintendo-style virtual console, drip-feeding the most popular titles over a long period of time. It sucks.

PSA: if you're a lapsed game pass on PC member you can get 3 months of Game Pass Ultimate for 3€. I just re-subscribed. Gonna play some Sea of Thieves on Saturday with Ducky (and whoever else wants to join!)
Btw here's a site where you can see the latest added games: (
https://www.trueachievements.com/pc-game-pass/games?order=GPDateAdded) MS themselves don't seem to have a handy list of all the latest additions.
New additions I'm hyped to play:
The new TMNT game - just played a bit of this. It's nice, but I haven't really been into these kinda games since the early 90's.
Chorus - looks cool. Anyone played this?
Ninja Gaiden 1-3
Sniper Elite 5
Trek to Yomi
Bugsnax
NORCO
Umurangi Generation
Tunic
Death's Door
Lawn Mowing Simulator

I ended up upgrading to the PS Plus Extra tier. I couldn't upgrade for just 1 month, since I was early in the cycle of a 1 year Essentials subscription, so the only option was to upgrade for the whole year! Boo! Oh well. ~40€ for the upgrade, which is about half of what Returnal costs anyway. And since this finally lets me play Returnal (it's in the Game Catalogue), I figured it was an ok deal. And y'know WHAT? I'm playing Returnal. It's good!
Thirith on 9/7/2022 at 17:54
Returnal is one I'm really curious about, but I'm hoping they'll release it on PC.
henke on 9/7/2022 at 21:32
It reminds me a lot of Control, oddly enough. I say oddly enough because I feel like someone ought've told me about how similar they are by now but no one has. Then again I suppse that largely because of Returnal being a PS5 sclusie which barely anyone has played yet.

Microsoft just introduced referrals for Game Pass: (
https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2023/05/02/game-pass-friend-referral-program-announce/)
Quote:
We know that gaming is best with friends, so today, we're introducing the Xbox Game Pass Friend Referral offer, which lets Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members give up to five friends a free 14-day PC Game Pass trial.
Invited friends must be new to Game Pass to redeem the free trial.
Looks like a decent offering, with the bolded part being something to watch out for.
