After TDS, I am very afraid they WILL disappoint me.
DS was such a weird case of just about everything going as bad as possible for the developers. It was ISA's follow up game after they practically ruined Deus Ex, they didn't have as much funding as they could have, were rushed by Eidos, and had to build the entire game around a gimpy engine that the consoles of the time could barely handle. It was only through raw talent and dedication that it came out as well as it did.
EM is in an entirely opposite situation. DX:HR was a (finally) worthy follow up to the original DX, made them a ton of money and gained them loads of critical praise. They're seemingly awash with cash, given so much free reign that they could spend three years testing new ideas to see what worked and what didn't, and are targeting a platform that, at worst, is on the middle of the high end of the PC scene. Provided they've got the talent to back all that up, it'll turn out at least decent.

Make a game for everyone, and you're making a game for no one.
Sounds to me like they're making a game that'll appeal to old Thief fans. Unless that podcast was nothing but a bunch of lies to trick us into buying a copy.

Your fave of the franchise? :)
It wasn't mine. But we are all different aren't we. Thank goodness! Lets hope EM cater for all of us. :thumb:
I think you misunderstood me. T3 is definitely NOT my favorite. My disappointment...well here's my quote.

T3 is a good game. If it hadn't come after 2 games that got things SO right, I think it would have gotten a much better reception. I had enormously high expectations. I can look back and say unrealistically high expectations. T3 would have to have been perfect to meet them. And, that is unrealistic. Unfortunately, my view of T3 will always be colored by its failure to meet all my expectations and for what it was not as much as what it was. Unfair? Probably, but there it is. I've been impressed more with the T3 FMs and what the community has been able to do with the editor. There are some excellent FMs which went a long way toward redeeming T3 for me.

That was a most interesting and positive podcast. I'm feeling a little better about this but there wasn't any info about 3rd person, or lack of, was there? :(

Lots of Questions Responded To!
Answered? Not nearly so much. At least a couple key things really were, so I'll take them happily. The rest of the responses didn't add anything significant, if at all, eliminating the usual business of asking the same questions already asked and replied to elsewhere.

* Light gem: Yes
* MP: No
* Editor: Unlikely
* Hub: Yes
* Original cutscenes: Hopefully
* Customisable den: Yes :eww:
* Ghostable: Yes
* Depths to explore: Yes
* Hammers and Pagans: Likely
You call that a "couple" of things and not signifcant?
Did we hear the same podcast?
The only things they haven't mentioned that I want to know more about are 1st and 3rd person, exactly how Focus works and is used, and if rope arrows are in.
One thing that I think is being strongly hinted at is that this is going to be a Tales of Garrett. It's not a sequel or a prequel, its stand-alone. I reckon it'll be a series of potentially unconnected vignettes, or mini-series; e.g. if we have 12-18 missions it'll be 4 x 3 mission packs per story (or a couple of 2 mission stories, some 3 and a bigger 4 or 5 mission one etc). Sort of like the FM series that are out there (not including T2X, natch).
