Game-Ending Bugs. - by Volitions Advocate

Spoilers below.
Has anybody else had troubles in SS1 with bugs that stop your progress and make it impossible to continue?
I'm playing SSP 1.2 with the mouselook mod and the alternate dosbox version.
Last time I played was with an older version of SSP w/o any mods at all.
The time I tried before that was the CD-rom version in DosBox that I set up on my own (before SSP)
All 3 times I've hit bugs that wont let me continue. The first time it was the CPU cores on the Storage level i think (5 or 6?). They would render in game but were not really there. they wouldn't respond to weapons fire and were impossible to destroy. So I couldn't get the code.
The 2nd time I tried playing it through, this time on SSP. Destroying the Mining laser does not enable you to use the elevator up to level 6, Just lvl3. I ended up doing every possible thing on lvl3 and finding out I couldn't continue because the elevator wouldn't unlock.
Now I'm playing SSP 1.2 and I just finished the research level, destroyed the mining laser, and its the same thing all over again. the Elevator will not allow me past level 3.
Has anybody had these problems? It's not even related to my comptuer because This computer is relatively new to me and I haven't tried to play SS on it at all until this playthrough.
I've never been able to beat this game and It's really starting to annoy me.

Never experienced anything like that. But then again, I play the original game, which I manage to run under XP.

It's not like SSP contained any mods that changed the game, but whatever.

If you read (
http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=1631) the walkthrough, you'll see that after destroying the laser you're indeed supposed to go to level 3. From there you can take the Freight Elevator to level 4... Well just read it.

That's what I figured.
Damn... I guess you can't catch a break for trying to do it without a walkthough.
Thanks Kolya. I'll try that and report.

After destroying the mining laser, you should be able to go to level 6... For a long time, I used to do that. I'd get to Maintenance, then sprint across the level to get to the other elevator and go straight to Executive (the main reason was that there is a log of someone saying he was going to try doing that). Then I'd 'clean' the levels downwards.
Unless I misunderstood Volitions Advocate, and what he was expecting was to use the same elevator coming up from level 2 to go straight to level 6... I thought that his complaints were that the other elevators in the Maintenance level were locked. Because I figured that it wouldn't make sense 'doing every possible thing on lvl3' and not finding out that there are actually two other elevators in that level :p

Yeah I feel kind of dumb. I got kind of stuck and used a walkthrough to give me the next step, (not the one kolya linked to) and all it said was you could get to lvl 6 after destroying the laser. I haven't had the chance to play the game much so I never remember that there are 3 elevators on the Maintenance level. So my complaint was unwarranted.
In good news though. All the CPU nodes are destroyed without glitches. So I may just finally beat this game for the first time.

for me in System Shock 2 i now can't read any PDA entries or text after installing the Hi-res texture and model packs, but the models and textures work fine, anyone got an idea?

you have messed up your ss2 install in some way (deleted the strings folder/crf? that's where all the texts are).
btw,why posting this in a completely unrelated thread?

Because at this point its a gaming ending bug and i didn't think it would be worthy to make a whole thread about it.
thanks for the fix btw, there were two strings.crfs so i deleted the new one and replaced it with the old one :)
