It's the same 6~8 games over & over for every category. It looks like either a handful of studios handed over a little envelope with a little wink, or the popular imagination just has a very narrow scope of attention for games.

This all sounds so generic, "The Game Awards." Who even puts this thing on? I don't see much in there besides big studio AAA stuff. Oh wait, they threw Hades in there just to be cool and hip. It all seems like a giant waste of time.

Ok, so of course TLOU2 isn't the GOTY. Of course everyone knows that the true 2020 GOTY is Snowrunner, baby!
Buuuuut... out of this pile of mostly-AAA games, yeah, TLOU2 is the GOTY. Not that I've played the other games in their GOTY category, except Ghost of Tsushima, which was a disapointment.

These things are so far removed from my gaming habits (or those of anyone I know) that they seem like a farce. The best part of any game awards show (or E3 presentation) is the subsequent Youtube compilation of hapless executives and unenthusiastic celebrities.
Apparently Sephiroth stabbed Mario though, so that's cool.

Well I've just finished TLOU2 (see the dedicated thread) and I thought it was great. So this seems all fine to me.
Isn't part of this voted on by gamers anyway?

I think I'll just wait for the TTLG Awards instead.
Also, not that I'm all that excited about Cyberpunk 2077 - my gaming backlog is so huge that I probably won't be playing it until 2077 anyway - but how come it's not even nominated in the "Most Anticipated Game" category? Cyberpunk has got to be one of the most hyped games of recent times, while I've never even heard of Horizon Forbidden West or whatever. :p

It's here this year though so probably wasn't allowed in the category.
Horizon FW is the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn. You must have heard of that.
The anticipation list was lame though - only the winner isn't a sequel/franchise member.
