Okay, so the entire point of ISA releasing such a mind-numbingly boring demo for DX2 was because they didn't want to give away any of the plot, right?
Well, some guys on the Ion Storm forum already discovered resource files indicating that a certain major location from DX1 will be revisited. And I, innocently poking around the conversation files, found a discussion that apparently gives away major plot points from near the end of the game!
Bloody hell! Is there no end to ISA's mishandling of this game?

Um... quite a lot of game demos have a great deal of the 'full game' shit in the files, they just don't take it out cuz its not going to be seen. Lord knows, I played a few games with the DX1 demo with the Nanosword and the other files.
And let's not forget the 'summon all the researchable bits in SS2, then all the chems needed, and learn about the game that way' you could do in the SS2 demo.
I hardly think its fair to blame IS for other people looking through the game files.

You're missing the point. With this demo ISA was making a specific effort to hide greater elements of the plot. They also apparently did quite a bit of crunching to get the demo down to a reasonable size. And yet, they left gobs of things with no functional purpose in the demo, which do in fact reveal massive plot points.
It's mind-numbingly absurd.

Did you happen to find out if we have to listen to Sid Black all the way through the game?
Seriously, what's up with him? We loved Thanks Fer Gettin Me In so much they had to give us a major character?

While I can see your point in a way, I still think you're blaming the wrong people, and complaining a little bit too far.
Yes, they could've taken it out, but for what reason? Its not as if the files are out in the open, named "full_game_spoilers.txt" or anything - they're hidden in the file structure, labeled rather inconspicuously, where most people wouldn't look.
Every game wants to hide greater elements of the plot. Every game does a bit of crunching to take a 600meg CD and make it ~200mb demo. Every game leaves gobs of things with no functional purpose in the game, that do in fact reveal massive plot points.
But because its DX:IW, its something special to whine about?

You were "innocnetly poking around conversation files"? What, is that like accidentally committing genocide or something? :p
"I slipped on a banana peel and BANG! All dead! I swear, I never intended for it to happen!"
ZylonBane on 27/11/2003 at 23:36
I was under the entirely reasonable impression that the conversation files wouldn't include anything beyond the scope of the demo. And now I know exactly what happened to J.C. and where he's been hiding. Dammit.
Oh, and if you want to know what every major location in the full game will be, they included all the map images too, very descriptively named.

I think, based on Ion's demos have previously had in them, that it
wasn't a reasonable impression.
'sides, think about it - As I open ConTex.eng, I realize that the first few lines are definayely not in the demo. Wouldn't have
that have been a good point to say "um, wait, this has the ful info" and closed the file?

Guess my curiosity got the better of me. :p

Lemme get this straight... you poke around in files that no normal gamer would even think about unless he was bored out of his skull... find something you didn't want to know... and then complain of IS shoving spoilers down your throat?
:weird:
