The weekend has passed, no thread has been posted. IGN reports that Weinstein Company is considering splitting this double feature into two movies because of a dismal $12 million opening weekend.
That would be a huge loss, because Grindhouse is fucking excellent.
Planet Terror: this is about as visceral as the Cinema can get. Enough blood to run a river is spilt, humans and part-humans (and parts of humans) are liquified, pustules are burst, children, dogs, and strippers are spared no mercy. As awesome as Sin City was, the nod must go to Planet Terror for the sheer level of intensity sustained.
Death Proof is a bit of a mixed bag. I've always been a fan of Tarantino's patented dialogue, but it becomes almost masturbatory here, serving more as filler than insight. Despite the gratuitous body shots of various attractive women, and even the awesome performance of Kurt Russell, my interest waned during the first half.
BUT... then there's the car chase.
Holy shit, now this is a fucking car chase. I don't want to give it away, but I lied when I said that Planet Terror was as visceral as it gets. Tarantino MUST direct more action movies - this scene is absolutely unbelievable. Then there's the ending, which automatically gives Death Proof instant-classic status.
As for the trailers, well they're awesome too, though they're too short to discuss without spoiling the surprise.
Canadian viewers actually get an extra trailer, the winner of some Grindhouse contest. Fortunately it's available on online:

Did nobody else on TTLG see this? It is a hell of an experience. Go to the theater now. I can't really give it better praise than what Aja just did other than to say that these movies make the $12 ticket price worth it.

It's not out here yet, but I'm certain that I'll be in line at the cinema when it does hit. Also, I heard Machete is getting the small-screen treatment in a direct-to-DVD release.
Here are the youtube links for the best "official" mock trailers, it goes without saying that some of these trailers have explicit content.
Machete: (

"Yes, bro... I mean, padre."Thanksgiving: (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYtINl9cmEQ)
"It's blood."
"Son of a bitch."When you realise what the final scene of the Thanksgiving trailer is and later read what Eli Roth dreamed up as the plot for this slasher when he was a teen, you get a sense for how fucked up he really is.
Not sure why, but I can't imbed with HTML like Aja does above.

It actually is being released as separate films for the EU, apparently with more stuff to pad the Planet Terror and Death Proof out to closer to two hours each, since they had to cut out some things to get it down to a three hour running time.
I still haven't seen it, may go this weekend.

All the listings claim this movie is three hours long. It's actually three and a half, including fake trailers.
Not to say that Grindhouse as a whole is too long, but the last thing Death Proof needs is more footage.
