Give the civilians a chance to get out
to where? Israel has fences and
giant walls to keep them from getting out of their own country, they have nowhere to go.
I think you are confusing the West Bank security wall with Gaza.

Even then, isn't basically the entire border of Gaza "Israel", apart from a wee bit of Egypt down the bottom?
So unless they're down at the south end (good luck folks trapped 'oop north') even if they get over the wall, they're now in happy fun land anyway?
Or something.

And Egypt has blockaded their border from the southern end. Advance warning doesn't mean much of people have no fucking place to go.

Wouldn't just getting out of the neighbourhood be sufficient? I know Israel's attacks are disproportionate but I thought we were talking a few laser-guided missile strikes, not B52s doing carpet-bombing runs.
Stitch on 8/1/2009 at 16:28
Amnesty International and the United Nations both say that there's no safe place in Gaza for civilians to go.

I think it's time for Fringe to roll another grenade in here.

Did you read what you linked to?
"The
conflict began when Hezbollah militants purposely fired rockets at Israeli border towns as a diversion for an anti-tank missile attack on two armored Humvees patrolling the Israeli side of the border fence." (emphasis mine).
How did Israel 'jump the gun'? Also notice that the article correctly states that 'the conflict BEGAN' when the rockets were fired, but fails to mention the other incidents leading up to this that caused Israel to respond so strongly. Was the response overkill? Of course.
Again - if you live in these potential war zones and your army fires rockets across Israel's border, you'd better bet your ass they're going to fire back. If you're a civilian, it would be wise to leave, not hang around hoping for the best...
So the amount of damage done to Lebanon is acceptable to you?

Point.

Then I don't understand what we are disagreeing over... :p

We're not disagreeing over the fact that Israel goes overboard sometimes. I just got the sense that you were pointing to this single incident as an example of the way they typically conduct themselves, which is absolutely not the case. You also said they 'jumped the gun' which I understand to mean that they attacked without provocation. Their disproportionate retaliation doesn't negate the fact they they were attacked first.
