So, I was thinking about this the other day. There really aren't any notable stealth titles coming up for release, or even in the works right now. If you look at all the major stealth franchises, it looks a bit bleak:
Thief - Last game in 2014, appears to be nothing new on the horizon. Poor sales on the last game partially to blame.
Splinter Cell - No game since 2013, might be something in the works, but nothing imminent.
Hitman - Future unclear. IO retained the rights, but the last title didn't sell well. Sounds like SE just basically gave up the rights to the franchise.
Metal Gear - With Kojima gone, there doesn't appear to be any true Metal Gear sequels on the way.
Deus Ex - Due to poor sales of the last game, the franchise has been shelved for the moment.
Dishonored - Nothing new planned, not to say it won't. But again, poor sales of the last game.
So what does that leave, indies? I couldn't find much on the horizon. There have been a couple of gems over the past couple of years, like Styx and Volume and Invisible Inc and Neon Struct, but they seem to be few and far between.
I don't know, is stealth just not something the majority of gamers are interested in these days? I'm always a bit surprised that I see dozens of System Shock clones on Steam, but almost nothing that is Thief-inspired. You'd think with the explosion of indie games over the years, someone would have made a professional version of TDM for sale. With the poor sales of Thief/Hitman/Deus Ex/Dishonored, I'm guessing the next big stealth title will
have to be an indie. Seems likely the big studios have been scared away.
All that said, this looked kind of interesting:

Well, new Assassin's Creeds and Far Crys are right around the corner.

Pure stealth games are probably quite niche, but stealth/action is probably the most mainstream genre there is at the moment. Pretty much all of Ubisoft's and Naughty Dog's games are in it, and a big chunk of WB Games and Eidos games too.
As for pure stealth games though, best one I've played this year is Shadow Tactics.

There is my Thief inspired stealth game but, it has to be a side project for now because I need to focus on the game I'm making for the company I'm working at. I'm hoping once that's done, though, I can negotiate them to act as a publisher for it and give a budget so momentum can pick up on it.

I'ven never been a proponent of the idea of pure ghosting, but stealth options are near and dear to my heart. I don't want to be forced to play stealthily, but when, and if I can, I treasure that ability and use it until I can't. My favourite games tend to be where stealth is an option to go to, but you don't automatically fail for not using it. *Forced* stealth is cancer, especially in games where it's an afterthought with no developed mechanics for it, just binary switches.

That's why Deus Ex 1 and the Dishonored games are so good. Stealth is a desirable tactic, because you can be overwhelmed, but you don't need to quickload everytime someone sees you either.

Also combat was more viable in option in Thief 1 and 2 than people think. You just gotta <strike>know how to exploit the AI</strike> be good at it :ebil:

I doubt it's possible to make good stealth _and_ action - choose one. Btw, what are SS clones?

Dishonored 2 and Deus Ex HR didnt sell well? WHAT. What is wrong with people. Both of those games are fantastic.

I'd imagine part of the reason in Dishonoured 2's case was how buggy it was on release.

This is been an ongoing concern of mine for almost a decade now: (

Sure, games with stealth elements pop in every now and again, but I doubt we will ever see a purely stealth game like Thief again (first-person AAA type thing).
Wow, I just looked through that thread and I said the exact same thing five years ago:

Dishonored can certainly be played like Thief to a very large degree, but there will never again be a purely stealth game like Thief.
