After some reflection I realised that probably is the case, henke. I suppose though that it doesn't help that there is definitely a stigma regarding spousal abuse in Latino cultures which further drives this whole thing along.

Is it? I don't know, I'm guessing the numbers are the same in most countries. Who else would women/men be murdered by than their spouses? Real "killers" who go out murdering people at random are pretty rare, after all. At least when compared to crimes of passion.
I don't want to misinterpret your comment, but that wouldn't make it any less appalling. Joe Random Killer may wander in the streets from time to time, but the least you should expect is to come home and be safe and comfy, not fear that you SO goes all berserk and beats you to a bloody pulp.
Of course, THIS IS HUMAN NATURE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HERE.
Still, this
is a horrific number. That this number is or is not the same in most countries is irrelevant.

OB, I know this is your new tired (whoops, I meant TRIED) and tested new shtick, but fuck off. Are you even offering anything these days except from these terrible regurgitated one liners, you witty witty man?
Expects a one-line reply being a quote of something I've said recently.
Hey, don't be down on Onionbob. His reactions are instinctual, because of the way he was raised.

I like Bobbo, he's a live spark around these parts but TTLG has been so bereft of any discussion lately that his sniping seemed a little misplaced and undeserved.

Yeah, what we need in this forum are some exceedingly fresh and good posts nearly every day.

Right.

Yep. Ridiculous laws won't change the fact that people stay in abusive marriages by their own free will. That could only be cured by removing the mythical glorification of marriage itself and admit on a wider cultural level the facts: Love doesn't always conquer all, it doesn't always last, and sometimes the idealistic illusion/ sick and twisted version of it can get you killed. If that's the case, running away is common sense, not a shameful thing.

Isn't it the same for some Middle Eastern countries as well?
Some women there are considered to be 2nd class citizens.
Just a thought.

Is this the kind of accurate, illuminating writing we can expect to see throughout your reporting career?

That's a horrific number, if true
surely though, if it was less, then women would have a greater chance of being stabbed at random in the street?
And that wouldn't be nice
