(
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070226/od_nm/mexico_husbands_dc;_ylt=Aoia74PRjk7wx2GAOPzL7B7MWM0F) Jealousy Laws To Be Brought In?
That's pretty astounding right there, that they have to go to such lengths in order to curtail swings of human emotion - indifference and jealousy. But perhaps even more astounding is the statistic reported:
Quote:
In Mexico, about 75 percent of all murdered women are killed by their husbands
That's a horrific number, if true, and okay, I'm beginning to see the crystalisation of something approaching logic here - instances of extremely possessive/jealous husbandry will possibly lead to murder, but then all semblance gets blown apart with the following statement:
Quote:
Perez Duarte said indifference, jealousy or lack of love were crimes against women just as much as physical violence.
Hahahahaahahahahahahahahahahhahaahahahaahahahahah
Okay, I can see that severe psychological strain would result from being involved with an extremely obsessively jealous husband, but indifference or lack of love? So if a guy forgets his anniversary or doesn't want to bang his wife (are you a mexican, or a mexi
cant?), he gets to go to court?
HELLO, THIS IS WOMEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HERE.
There should be at least a PMS clause.
But seriously, how does this change anything? A woman who marries a guy like that and potentially ends up beaten or threatened with death can always approach the police regarding the spousal abuse, so having "jealousy laws" seems like a cop-out to actually attacking the true underlying problems, which for the most part are probably good ol' fashioned sexism.

It will be a happy day for gold diggers worldwide if these laws go ahead

They're trying to prevent rape by sending people to prison if they refuse to have sex? That's... quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I can't think of any reason a sane person would support this as the article describes it.
Also, regarding the link title, it says in the article that this was passed this month (and refers to it as a law), so presumably it's already in effect.

The stigma that will become attached to such mock-worthy charges may well do more damage in terms of diminished reporting of real psychological and physical abuse.

OB, I know this is your new tired (whoops, I meant TRIED) and tested new shtick, but fuck off. Are you even offering anything these days except from these terrible regurgitated one liners, you witty witty man?
Expects a one-line reply being a quote of something I've said recently.

Is it? I don't know, I'm guessing the numbers are the same in most countries. Who else would women/men be murdered by than their spouses? Real "killers" who go out murdering people at random are pretty rare, after all. At least when compared to crimes of passion.
